not at all. look at some of the other contracts handed out today. July 1s† prices. Cole would not have been around to sign tomorrow. He obviously wants to play here, and we finally have that power forward we've been missing for years. The guy also came back from a broken neck, he will be a great mentor to patches. he's 32, but fast...we finally have 2 big lines with kostistyn (2o goal scorer:p) on the 3rd.
You have to overpay, if you want to beat other teams out for premier assets like this. There is no way you can think that this will not help us out 5 on 5. After White and Georges sign (if) we should still have 4 mill cap space to work with. Sign a spare part or 2 for 2 mill and keep 2 mill for deadline day trades.
Our team just got a lot better up front...i'm excited.

Love that he's a big boy. We cannot compete with the Flyers and the Bruins, they just beat us up and wear us down. The only reason we smoked the Bruins a few this year is cuz Thomas sucks balls at the Bell Center.

Overall this team is much more solid than last year on paper. The Habs have a bonafide big body on every line, and they are fast big bodies made for the transition game. We have a fast defence (other than gill/gorges who make a sweet shutdown pk pair.) that can move the puck.
We were missing 5 on 5 goals and grit. Erik Cole is fast, has great hands, a nose for the net and can hit. He was 22nd overall in the nhl in 5 on 5 goals and 13th overall in hits. A need was addressed by Gauthier, the price doesn't matter...our top 6 up front is solid.
All our young guys will be a year older too. This isn't a cup contender, but if healthy could be the best Habs team we've seen in quite a while. Cole is friends with Gionta and a bunch of the other americans on our team. He should be a great veteran to mentor our young guys in the locker room.
