For some strange reason, actually, the Union Jack is really popular around the world (except for Ireland, perhaps). I started counting after a while how many Union Jack shirts I saw in Japan while I was there. In a little less than a month, I saw 28.

(Incidentally, I used to have one myself as a teenager :p)

Well they have kind of spread their seed around most of the world, so to speak. I wonder if the specific prevalence of them in Japan has anything to do with their former occupation of India and India's proximity to Japan. That seems a bit of a stretch though because I've always thought Japan to have had a more traditionally isolationist tendency around that time.

I guess the only two things from India that ever made their way into Japanese culture have been Buddhism and curry, really :p
