This will be Kate's 2nd appearance in ATL in 2011... but this time she is bringing more than just records! Join us @ The W Atlanta Downtown's rooftop pool for a very rare poolside DJ Set by Chicago's own Kate Simko. After the pool, the party will relocate to the Sound Table where Kate will be performing her first ever Live PA in Atlanta. With the recent release of "Lights Out" we are very excited to see what she has in store!

SATURDAY JULY 23RD
KATE SIMKO

Recent Mix:
Warm, groovy and hypnotic, Kate Simko's music occupies a space between house and techno with an personal voice that sets it apart. Artistically, Simko’s background helped shape her sound into a well-rounded package: she began as a classically trained pianist who found herself at house and techno’s doorstep in Chicago in the mid 90’s. As part of her university degree in music, Simko ventured to Santiago, Chile in 2002. There, her project with Andres Bucci, Detalles, marked her entrance into minimal techno, with the release of their first record on Traum.
With two Detalles albums and several years under her belt, Simko began cultivating her own distinctive sound that has carved her niche in dance music’s avante garde. With releases on labels such as Spectral Sound, Ghostly International, and Eklo, Kate's tracks have been licensed to Circo Loco and Berghain, and supported by respected DJ's across the globe. Her standout A/V live sets at festivals and clubs have steadily built her reputation while her DJ skills earned her a spot in “Chicago’s Top 10 DJ’s” in XLR8R magazine. When DJing, her creative track selection and ability to adjust to the crowd make her a rare performer who can bring both depth and fun to the party. Among the numerous clubs and festivals Kate has played, a few of the highlight sets include Berghain (Berlin), Fabric (London), Rex Club (Paris), the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, MUTEK (Montreal), Eleven (Tokyo), and D-Edge (Sao Paulo).
Now in 2011, the highly respected German label Hello? Repeat presents the Chicago-based producer’s captivating journey of creative emotion with her debut full-length album ‘Lights Out.’ Recorded in Buenos Aires in 2009 and 2010, ‘Lights Out’ allowed Kate to explore new ideas and, most importantly, construct a longer story. A musical expedition of twists and turns, ‘Lights Out’ branches out into vast avenues of diversity. As we meander through the ten track offering, the many colours and shapes of Kate Simko become apparent. The album's wide eyed grooves and eyes closed melodies express a deep well of musical creativity and expert arrangements. Kate blurs the lines of house, techno, minimal, and ambient with ease on ‘Lights Out’ and the album is a dazzling and insightful journey through Kate Simko’s musical mind.
“Not only is Kate Simko a crack producer, continually evolving her unique style of pulsating, nuanced, and sensual house music. She’s also a killer DJ, the type often called a DJs’ DJ, with a wide range and an unfailing knack for finding the hidden thread between disparate tunes.” – Philip Sherburne/ Beatportal

If there was but one night, one time, one building I would jump off, completely into the loving grasp of passing traffic, to utterly dispense my fears and dreams in a culminating pang of pomp, circumstance, circumspect
IT WOULD BE THIS NIGHT. THIS EVENT. THIS BUILDING. THIS TIME.
Sacrificing every tomorrow for just this time. Pool. Rooftop Party. I'm finding it harder not to fund this feeling of a total nihilistic immersion into techno and then the primeval subterranean eternity.
May I come back as a designer substance ripe for nostrils and mixed emotions. |

Careless as the passing breeze.
Monochromatic dust motes swirl and glide through a seemingly endless abyss of air. The water ripples as though a sanguinary substance, alive with the sound of sonic rhythms and vibes.
Sun drenched. Alcohol stench. A daze hangs over the crowd. Murmured words and esoteric phrases drift amongst the cacophony. The rising and falling of the tempo matches not only our mercurial moods, but also our fleeting LIVES.
This time.
Our time. |

Pallid, that's the only requirement to get in. Paper thin skin, sunken in eyes. That feeling that you're not quite certain what you've stepped into, but the overwhelming humidity of the onset of the given emotion emitted from the speakers makes your fears subside and your inner transmission of nectar release.
Linear jawline, compressed into the focal point of the most ardently pronounced chin to ever stop listening to minimal. Her androgynous shell forces the ground to swell when her spidery veined fingers adorn the evenly-spaced controls of the light-giving setup. Simko carries each harmony on the backs of the strife poured into forgotten mistakes. In club bathrooms. With HTC Phones and flagrant misuse of flash photography in such an illusory environment.
I can't wait to lose my phone and/or break it. To forget where I parked my car and settle for someone's loft apartment with their posters and flyers up on the walls as badges earned for nights well spent.
ADMISSION doesn't so much matter as its root -- MISSION |

Jewelry adorns our boney limbs. Ink seeps beneath our skins. There was never so much time spent on making oneself look like they had spent no time on making oneself. For this night.
The bar was alive with lights and sound, and I just could not find the ground. Below me. Above me. Within me. There were people there, but I did not care. Far away. As if in the grave.
The music pouring forth from JBL and ROKIT-9999s drew me in, but it was not our focus. It was our backdrop. A sheet onto which our deepest and most primal emotions could be projected and injected as a serum of pure emotion. Nothing could take this away. The memories would forever remain a clouded gauze wrapped over my eyes for that moment in time. Strange... how this gauze brings the world itself into such sharp relief. |

I'd refrained from picking up the glass as there were too many shards to make it plausible. There was just one thing that needed to be taken care of and that was the incessant screaming of the curdled diaspora of an infant. A girl, as it were. Her eyes were beady, and moist with prenatal dew, as though she hadn't ever seen footage of nine eleven.
Calmly, I filled the bathtub up. The water kept pouring out forming vexing patterns of refraction in the beige bathtub. Her head nestled comfortably in the crux of my arm, and the docility she espoused must have been genetic. She understood, I needed to get to this rooftop party.
She understood, as each bubble made its way to the surface I repeated this statement ad infinitum.
She knew that Kate Simko was coming. |
