So I know there's probably a thread about this and I searched for it but I need some advice.
I've been working on this trance track. I call it fading away. And I'm really to the point where I want the structure of my track to be something other than what it is.
I've brainstormed about ways to go about it. I'm a Reason user, so, I thought about importing a .wav song into the nn-19 and using that has a template and I've also just tried to be more original but its not coming together.
I dunno, listen to it. Someone w/ excellent song structure tell me more than just listen to the track and go w/ how it feels. I wanna do drops, and changes, and build-ups.
Are all the components here?
Help!!

Many times I copy some track I like structure and adapt mine to it, so I tweak and make personal changes to fit my taste...
For me, this was the best tip and solved my creativity problems when I was in trouble.
Subtle
There just isnt enough happening throughout the track, no variation, no rhythm, no drive or effects, the kick is pretty stale as well, however i really like that bass sound you used, how did u do that ?

I don't think there's anything wrong with the structure at all.

aiight so I read all of your comments and I'm appreciative- thank you. Regardless of the brutatility in the advice, or how subtle some of your recommendations are, the fact is, that track definitely is "stale". I went back and relistened to it and there's just not enough originality to it. Even though I feel like most if not all the components are there, the track is supposed to be about expression and its not. Its just "rinse and repeat" and that's not how I want it. So, I'm going back in, I'm going to break down the entire track, and redo it. Starting now.. See ya in a few days..

Sorry to double post, but since my last comment I've been nose deep in Reason working on this track. I swear each song is a learning experience and new ideas come out.
On this edit.. edit II.. I decided that I was going to block off each section of the track. So the intro, build, and then the chorus. I spent some time automated some filters and changed around the sounds. Added some noise crashes and some sweeps which really aren't that difficult to make if that's what one sets out to make.
I also redid the entire beat adding a rhythm and some new elements.
I dunno.. So far its 5+ minutes and that's without an intro and mix down...
When you listen, since there's no intro its just going to jump right out. So please adjust your volume accordingly.
See ya on the next edit..
Oh and if you're in Atlanta, Max Graham and Marcuss Schossow tonight.. Hope to see everyone out! =)

Sorry but to me there's still not enough in here to keep is interested.. We all know what a good track sounds like but for some reason (and were all guilty of this) we manage to convince ourself that our tracks sound good when in fact they dont, especially when we first start out..
What ever the style is your trying to achieve you need to compere it to other tracks from that genre and in doing so am sure you'll hear its still lacking whats already been mentioned to you (no variation, no rhythm, no drive, lack of effects etc..)
Personaly I wouldnt spend any more time on it just move on to another track, but please dont feel too disheartened by this you just need to keep moving forward all the time and start something new.

Mate, your'e trying to run before you can walk. Look, as an experiment, just focus on the first 4 bars with those 3 sounds.
I don't know about others but even getting just the kick right would take me at least 1 hour.

Nothing wrong with that
edit: Its the same with snares for me, I spend way too much auditioning to find the right one.

The thing is, the average listener isn't going to care about the snare sound you choose. It's very easy to fall into an endless tweaking loop. It's more important to have everything just right in relation with other sounds rather than having one sound exactly right. Think about the bigger picture.
