On the way home from bball last night my dad said there was a fight outside Hard Kandy on Friday night and 2 people got shot!! Anyone know any more about this? He said like 20 people were involved or somethign like that, and the people who got shot were already down and out! Poor bastards. :(

I was going to go to HK last week when I went to Lounge, but ended up staying there all night.

I might think twice about going to Billboards now. Neva been there b4 ..... wot's the vibe/crowd like there ?

check The Age website today. I read an article there this afternoon (Sunday). If I remember rightly it said that security were not letting people go outside after they had been in because it was too dangerous or something to that effect. ne1 know what was going on outside ?

Well it is Russell St, so I wouldn't be suprised if it was some gang thing or, given the nature of the event, possibly something to do with drugs as well. :(

Nonetheless, it's another tragic thing to happen, especially so soon after the Salt shootings. HK had just started advertising on Nova and trying to go a bit more "overground" to attract the crowd, but something like this could kill the entire night (not to mention the entire club).

Shame really. :(

This is a real bummer... I like that club a lot, not really for HK but teriyaki on a thursday night is always very enjoyable, and quite original. It's also a really nice club to play at, really good set up, nice dj booth, great booth speakers that means there isn't much echo. It's a really friendly crowd on a thursday... anyone know if the people who got shot survived?

I heard from a friend (so might not be correct obviously) that basically there was an argument/fight whatever between the guys and security and they were asian/ethnic (don't mean to b racist) and there was that...

BUT then, they went back later when it was closed or something with baseball bats and ed up the whole entire place, smashed up everything apparently. might not be true but still

I've been once but I didn't get in because they said I was too "overdressed". And I dressed up because I'd never been there before and I didn't want to be "underdressed".........
I dunno if I'm gonna go back though!

I think the security at HK are idiotic, but on thursdays it's not a problem. I think they must use different guys for different nights.

No offence to anyone, but when is nightclub security not idiotic? I remember a friend of mine was refused entry to Globe because her jeans were "the wrong shade" .. pffft ..

And another thing .. where do all the bouncers go during the day? The number of nightclubs that have 4-5 big chunky Maori dudes standing at the front door, you'd expect to see them around a lot, but I dun think I ever seen one during daylight... like vampires or something :D:cool:

bad time to mention i am a bouncer???

pfft... doesnt bother me.. u get the good with the bad... as with anyone in a position of authority. Some ppl do it for the powertrip... and they're the ones that piss me off

im sure everyones had a bad experience with bouncers, cops, teachers...

Not wanting to throw a spanner into the works here but I honestly thought the bouncers at Kandy last Friday were reasonable type of people. They even managed to spring some humour on me, which pleasantly surprised me cos I thought it was something they had trained not to do at bouncer college.

Yeh, the dress codes a bit iffy but the type of stuff they don't allow is the type of stuff you shouldn't be wearing to bust moves anywayz (i mean in terms of comfort factor - not tryin' to be a clothing-nazi or anything). :p

However, I can understand the hostile feelings towards them cos sometimes they just think they're above the law (like taxi drivers) and this I witnessed for myself at Pharmacy a couple'a months back. The shame, oh the shame. I was embarassed to consider myself a fellow human being after EVERYTHING i experienced that nite.

NEVERTHELESS, back on topic here - the actual nite inside was pretty awesome. The music was nostalgic (ala Skydive, Age of Love, Groove's in the Heart ?!?) and the people were going nutso, so basically i'm saying the shootings have not become a deterrent for me to attend the place again and I urge others to give it a(nother) chance.
