Wanting a commercial sound - any thoughts

We're after making something commercialesque, whatever that means. Are we headed the right direction?

No sweeps or anything yet, just working on the drop.

Hey Richard,

I would like you to clean up some low freq sound (specifically bass line lol), I have hard time to take it a part, it is a bit muddy for me (I hope that you will still talk to me after this comment lol).
I rather tell you truth than lie to you my friend and this bass line is not connecting with me at the moment - only my $0.02.

Cheers Rich,

sound is good no idea i feel some think boring it is not fast or not slow music between then but its ok

sounds like an instrumental of that "baby i like it" record from enrique iglesias 2 years ago, but then screwed by compression with a bootleg bassline http://youtu.be/X9_n8jakvWU

tidy it up, put some transitions in there, female vocalist

Gawd it just the same chords, your right!

With a WIP, all I do is run it through any old limiter just so it's loud to put on SC whilst I take advice from people.

Transitions and so on all to be done.

FEMALE VOCALS - not easy to find one. I tried some near me but they were not right for pop dance.

I'm no good at mixing bass - is the bass line too loud, wrong eq?

The bass is squashing anything else away because of the compression / limiting, so either compress less and limit less or turn your bassline down dramatically. I think the idea is good (it worked for enrique :D ) now you just need to build that hook on top

RAPHIE CAN I HAVE THAT?!?! i love the vocals in that track and would love a playable version in a 4/4 set (not into randomly dropping dubstep lol).

but ya rich, sounds like the bass is just taking up too much in the mix leaving no room for the other elements to breath

definitely in the right direction though :) throw in some of your awesome low-end percussion groove skills - that'll make this track a perfect commercial song.

Yeah Raphie - exactly what I was looking for, nice deep and tight bass line which is very active and support this overall atmo nicely.

sounds 'too' compressed for me, needs some room to breathe, and yeah, reminds me a bit of that track mentioned, though don't know if thats a bad thing necessarily, lots of poppy-mainstream tracks end up following the same progressions more or less exactly. in fact, that may be a good thing if you're really after a tried and tested commercial sound!
