Seriously though, i don't really see the point in creating something which will translate in stereo but not in mono. Even if only 1% of clubs still have a mono system, surely that's 1% too many:p
I'm with you. If a stereo effect is causing phase/ cancellation issues, generally just delaying one side by a few ms will solve the issue in mono, while leaving the stereo effect intact.
If I had a cool stereo effect which needed to be mono-incompatible to work properly, I guess I'd do two versions of the mix, and label one of them "mono-incompatible".

, YOU DID. I'M GOING TO STRANGLE SOME PUPPIES TO CALM DOWN THEN COME BACK HERE.
cool story bro. you should encourage more people to mix records with phasing issues while you're at it.

There's a noise that comes in at about 4:00 thats a good example of using this effect practically, if it's in mono the rest of the track sounds the same except that one sound isn't audible anymore

Don't get butthurt "bro".
I'm not going to tell anyone to introduce phasing issues in to their mix any more than I am to post on here that most clubs are mono
Derail is absolutely right - if a stereo effect is giving a phasing issue then it often can be fixed by delaying one of the sides a couple of ms.
You should aim to mix in Stereo as your primary concern, and not have it sounds disappear/mix sound like crap in mono.

clubs are so loud, how could you possible know if its stereo or mono?
i say do what you want to do, then walk around in your house and listen to your mix, if the sound dissapears its not good. if you can hear the sound then its all good

OBVIOUSLY IF IT'S LOUD ENOUGH YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO TELL. EVEN IF YOU GO AND CHECK HOW IT'S ALL HOOKED UP. IT'S SIMPLY TOO LOUD.

It's all good man. I totally get your point of view. From a clubber's point of view, it would be really hard to tell.
The whole "most clubs are mono" myth generally seems to fire DJ RANN up. I just found it amusing that your "how could you possibly know if it's stereo or mono" comment could potentially be aimed at Rann. Though obviously it wasn't.
In any case, as you suggest, walking around the room should point out any glaring concerns. If a sound has it's left and right channels out of phase, it will disappear noticeably at a number of points in the room.

Lol, that's what i took. The only reason I did that was that everyone on here knows how many times it's been brought up.
It's simply bizarre that the myth keeps perpetuating for no reason. I can't find or understand the source, but it keeps coming back. The people who perpetuate it also don't know why they think its true, they just seem to have heard it somewhere, but take it as gospel.
