I read this from dan larry that AES/EBU cable is better than firewire/usb/toslink optical in terms of quality.

I have Mac Pro which will be replaced by the new one coming out next month or later.

I have a Lavry DA 10 and i want to use the XLR option.

What should i get? what are my best options?

i think i asked the same some months ago and i got some answers from Rann. try a search for AES/EBU. i figured it would cost me alot to get that going. i think its quite pointless unless your speakers have that protocol but i totally love the idea to go digital all the way.

The only difference between AES/EBU and S/PDIF is the signalling: the digital audio resolutions and sample rates supported are the same. It typically uses XLR connectors, but the Lavry DA 10 supports S/PDIF with an XLR plug as well if you're gigging a lot and you're worried about your cables getting damaged.

AES/EBU does give you better resistance to noise, but unless you're having problems with your signal cutting out, you probably don't need AES/EBU: noise on a digital signal is pretty much all-or-nothing, so if your sound is perfectly audible but just poor quality, it's probably not because of noise on a digital link.

Exactly. Digital communication either works or it doesn't. If it does then the cheapest option us usually the one you want so you can buy some extra beers and prostitutes with the money you save.

Taken from Brad Johnson over at the lavry forum

"Virtually any interface that has an SPDIF or AES I/O will work with our converters for stereo applications. PCIe cards give the best over-all performance and reliability, including the lowest latency. The fact that new Mac Pro computers have only PCIe card slots limits the choice of possible interfaces, so be certain to choose a PCIe (PCI Express) format card if you do decide to go that route."

anyone know which PCIe thats supports AES/EBU compatible with mac
