I havn't been keeping up to date with music in a while. I personally prefer raw gritty goodness. but w/e is popular as of today, post it here, and i will shake my head at the world I live in.

The last mind-blowing thing that happened as far as I know was the first Mars Volta record, but that was in like 2003. If you're not familiar I'd load up on coffee and give it a few listens. Don't watch any live videos though they're all terrible.
If you're into metal at all the last huge release I know of was Meshuggah's ObZen in '08. They have a long history of being awesome though, that stuff is in a league all it's own.
Aside from that, everything new is :rolleyes: Dying to find something new that you can really sink your teeth into but it's just either not happening or I'm just not finding it

indie-pop/hipster w/e wise there have been a lot of great releases, or , depending on who you ask.
Animal Collective gave out a good album in 2009 with their "Merriweather Post Pavilion", and then a great EP "Fall Be Kind".
Tame Impala - Innerspeaker is a nice indie/pop-rock album
One of my favourite releases of 2011 so far is

Shoegaze has been booming this last decade, imo.
