Been twice since... and fail. Music blows... I would be able to deal with security and cover if it didn't.
If its the same people who threw the jam last week don't waste your time. |
minus the dubstep...which may not be your thing, the music last week was great. Arthur Oskan and Noah Pred were awesome. I was massively disappointed it got shut down early, although I understand why.
And why do people keep complaining about cover. its 5 dollars...for an amazing outdoor party. Do you know what it costs to run a party as big as cherry beach is now? like c'mon. a labour of love for 25 of your friends..fine. But 800 randoms? this isn't a charity party people |

It was fun, but not one of the best Cherry Beaches to date, that's for sure. There seemed to be larger influx of idiots last weekend than there normally is, and the Cherry Beach atmosphere that I have come to love was not really there at all last week.

lol, complaining about 5 dollar cover? Also, if security was bothering you every 5 seconds, you were clearly either causing trouble or looking sketchy because security at Cherry Beach are the nicest in the city.
From your other posts on this board, this kind of drivel coming from you is not surprising, but at the same time, stick to your trance parties bud, because if you're going to be doing that kind of complaining, I think it's safe to say that your kind isn't really wanted there.
On a more general note, it really gets boring when people continuously complain about the music at Cherry Beach. You can't go there expecting to hear the specific kind of "banging tech house" or whatever other kind of music you listen to. Promise Cherry Beach parties have always had a diverse offering of DJs playing on any given weekend, and that's what makes it great, because it keeps the crowd diverse.
In my opinion, it is when they have techno/tech house DJs at the beach when things get seedier and out of hand, because of the crowd it brings.
On a further note, I think that the Promise parties need to be moved back out to the new location further east along the beach, because I feel like the idiots that ruin it for everyone else are less willing to go that far.
Cherry Beach is supposed to be a community affair, but it seems like in the last couple of years there are more people who just care about themselves, and their own good time, regardless of the consequences. |

Ahhhh thats disappointing to hear, but I know exactly what you mean.
Cherry Beach is one of the most, if not the the most, unique and organic events we have in this city. And as it grows and more people hear about it, you get more and more of the idiot influx. It's so painfully obvious to spot them as well. The idiots who have open bottles of booze, invade your space, and don't clean up after themselves. |

Here's the lineup and the necessary deets for the Promise event Monday afternoon/evening..
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Cherry Beach this Monday:::
REFUSE TO BUY BEER OR ANYTHING ELSE AT CHERRY BEACH
Anyone found buying or selling will be escorted out and told not to return ever. No warning, because that’s already happened right here now.
...NEW CHARGE FOR RED PLASTIC CUPS $1
We need to get a handle on red plastic cup consumption. It’s gone nuts. Starting this Monday there’s a charge of a loonie per cup. Which is a lot for a plastic cup. Bring your reusable mug, and one for your friend who forgot.
NO GLASS ALLOWED
Also starting this Monday, all bags and coolers will be searched for glass.
NEW TO CHERRY BEACH?
Please scroll down towards the end of this message to find out more details like location and what to pack and other stuff.

NEW TO CHERRY BEACH?
If it’s your first time coming down to Cherry Beach, read on for what to expect, some tips, and some rules that while we’re super chill about most everything we’re not kidding about them and will escort out you and your whole crew (guilt by association, and no warning) if transgressed...
Families and Children
Yes! That’s what Cherry Beach is all about - our friends, friends of friends, family and children. All generations together. We tend to take the music up a notch after dark and the mood of the event follows so call it a day as the sun sets, it’s bedtime for children then anyway.
What to Bring (be self sufficient)
Remember to bring something warm to wear as the sun goes down, it can get chilly by the lake. Beach blanket, shades, reusable mug, sunscreen, repellant, lots of water, and something to share with your neighbours on the next blanket.
This Party Runs On Contributions
Friends of ours will be working through the afternoon accepting contributions from everyone who comes out to enjoy. We ask for a fiver (which we hope you agree is super reasonable), but you can give more if you like. And help in some way like picking up garbage during the afternoon or staying afterward for tear down. Thanks.
Our Security Decisions
We decided 2 years ago that with our large numbers we’d need some security to help with being our eyes and ears. We didn't like the idea at first, but as time went on we were very happy with how it didn't intrude on the fun atmosphere. Again this year we’ll be continuing with uniformed security. Remember, we've hired them as friends and partners, so they're there to keep the good times going. Their main jobs are to ensure that alcohol is not visible, that there are no hard drugs at all, and the dealing of that which comes along with them - dude, it's just not that kind of party. On a personal level, each one of us should consider ourselves ambassadors of Cherry Beach Sundays and lead by shining example. Cherry Beach Sundays are about friends, family and children. A relaxing end to the weekend. If you’ve got other priorities, then skip hanging out with us.
Alcohol
We cannot allow any alcohol. This should be obvious, but over time we all get lax. Police make random visits, they must not see any. Some have felt that simply putting beer into a cup is a disappearing act. If you were a cop, you’d not be fooled. Also, if you dump your empties into the trash, the police are going to notice them there. Not ok.
Smoke Butts
We spend literally hours picking up butts after each Cherry Beach Sunday. Simply put, don’t do it. We’re not your butt bitches. Butts go in empty containers, trash cans, your pocket, whatever. Just not on the ground.
The Windsurfing Club
The windsurfing club is our gracious neighbour. Please respect their privacy. Do not park in their lot, do not ask to use their washrooms, do not cut across their grounds. Stay away from the windsurfing club.
Location
Cherry Beach is located at the end of Cherry Street, off of Lakeshore Blvd East near Parliament. From the main Cherry Beach parking lot walk east along the bike path or the shore. We’re located in the forest by the water, just before the windsurfing club... you’ll hear the music.
Driving - Take Lakeshore Blvd East just past Parliament. Turn south down Cherry Street all the way to the end. Leave your car in the lot and follow the bike path east. You can also park at the soccer fields on Unwin Ave, which intersects with Cherry Street almost at the bottom. From the soccer fields walk towards the lake to the bike path and then go east.
Biking - Biking to Cherry Beach is easy along the trails beside the lake.
TTC - A bus goes from Union and Coxwell stations right to the Cherry Beach parking lot. Then just follow the bike path east.
Taxi - Ask the driver to take you to Cherry Beach, everyone knows it. At the end of your day there’s usually a bunch of cabs waiting in the same place you got dropped off.
Dodgy Weather
If the weather is looking uncertain, you can follow how things are going at http://twitter.com/cherrybeach or call David 416 550 2702 or Irving 416 902 1740 for an updated voice message. If you need to get in touch, text us. We’re bulldogs and usually set up regardless, and Cherry Beach seems to be in this weird climate pocket such that when it’s raining everywhere else in the city it’s just fine down at the beach. |

I /hate/ hate hate hate hate that location. It being there makes me not want to go - the vibe/energy changes so much being pushed back off into the bush. My favorite part of Cherry Beach is hanging out on the beach/relaxing before getting into 'dance' mode, and that part seems to be non-existent when it's in that location. If I'm showing up wanting to dance right-away it's fine, but the 'chill on the beach' vibe isn't there. |

Oh hell yea. That's a great line-up. Matt C + Baby Joel = perfect music for the beach. Matt C last year was in the top 3 best sessions of the summer.
I can't wait for this! |

The chill on the beach vibe wasn't really there last weekend either due to how rammed it was. |

cherry beach was a bush party for years...long before it came to the beach. I agree with Graham in that moving it back there will weed out a lot of people who aren't cherry fans. I am all for this! |

I really liked the location it used to be at before it got turned into soccer fields. Yeah, it was a bush party - but just something about the layout of space there felt more open and less cramped.
The new spot out by the smoke stacks -- something about it bugs me. |
