i agree with the above. just got back from nyc myself today. i got a hotel (sheraton) in brooklyn for $119 that is real nice. next to the stop, and a 10-15 minute train ride to anywhere in manhattan.

if not, yes renting an apartment for a stretch of days is good too. some are cheaper than a hotel, and better accommodations.

only problem is that the hotel is in a shady neighborhood, but that can be ignored. :o

which neighborhood was your hotel in?

oh... that's not really a shady area. i mean it's a very black area, if that's what you mean. and the criminal court is very close.. it's downtown brooklyn.

but that's walking distance to cobble hill, boerum hill, brooklyn heights, and fort greene, all of which are super nice areas.

shady would be parts of bedstuy, flatbush, east new york, parts of the bronx, parts of queens

i think staying in downtown brooklyn is a great location for people - easy access to lower manhattan, easy access to williamsburg (though you have to take the g), easy access to park slope and prospect park, bushwick is just a b38 bus ride away (if you are that kind of hipstour), and like i said, walking distance to some of the nicest parts of brooklyn.

If I was going on my own I'd be happy to meet up with TAs, but I really don't think the girl I'm going with wants to fly 3,000 miles to listen to discussions about beatmatching and black music history.

Well, what good is she?

I heard Twilo is a really cool club, you should go check that out.

and yeah, it's been stated, but Times Square is boring as piss. IT'S GOT LIGHTS AND THOUGH.

probably the closest thing worth visiting in the times square vicinity is chicken and rice 10 blocks north of times square :o

Or, 5th ave., a little further. I haven't made a Bergdorf-free trip yet. <3
