Well komplete 8 doesn't come with razor, but ultimate does. Which is why I was asking if I should buy k8 and razor separate, or k8 ultimate. And yes, the upgrade to k8 is available for those that have k2 or higher.

My 2 cents: the latest version of Komplete that I have v6. K7 didn't really offer a whole lot more in terms of substance, but had a ton of sample content that I knew would just waste HD space for me. I picked up some of the additional instruments (including Razor, which is excellent BTW) and soundpacks that I wanted, rather than do the whole upgrade. K8 looks to be more of the same. The only real new substance that has me interested is Kontakt 5. I don't use Guitar Rig enough to need an upgrade and I have BFD2, so Studio Drummer doesn't interest me. The rest of what you're paying for is primarily samples, samples, samples, especially with Ultimate, and most of that content is aimed at non-electronica styles.

So, if you don't have any version of Komplete, I'd suggest getting one. And, if you don't have a need for 200-and-some-GB worth of samples, I'd suggest saving your cash, buying the standard K8 and Razor, or consider looking for a deal on K7 or K6, and buy Razor separately.

I totally agree, which is why I didn't even touch k7. I currently have k6 and noticed there's a huge amount of additional stuff that would be pretty damn nice to have. I'm upgrading to k8 either way, but need to decide whether I need happy horse poo programs like Session Strings...

+1. I'm not happy with the new direction. I liked having 5-6 good solid synths (built on their own fast engines in c++ rather than in reaktor) and then including a couple of libraries as a sampling of what they're offering. The library bloat we're seeing now is due to their desire to stop piracy - which is difficult for a 240 gig library but easy for 5 good synths.
