Hey guys I was wondering what type of synths were used in a lot of those records. I am at a total loss, and the only thing I can say is they use synths from the 80s and early 90s. :(
And they use a lot of samples too. What were the samplers and sample libraries that were used in those songs?
Thanks in advance.

Go down to your second hand record store, that's the sample library.
Synths would have been 303s and junos, jupiters, maybe korg monopoly's etc I reckon. Although a bit of their stuff sounds quite prophety and some of it sounds like it came off a modular. Look at the arturia modular moog emu, its really nice for that sort of sound.

The Korg M1 legacy plug-in might be worth a look if you're after classic house and techno sounds.

Thanks for the posts guys.
I hear a lot these type of hits samples everywhere. You hear it in the very beginning of this first video:
Yaz
Also dont forget that back then folks were using old analogue synths like Juno 106, Juno 101, Alpha Juno 2 (preset for the original hoover on here) plus using analogue mixing desks and crappy 8 bit samplers often to sample from these synths or other records and around with them. This gives a lot of grit into the base sound - most modern 2/3 oscillator synths can easily make these sounds but you'll need to do a lot of post-fx to give them that dirty sound.
The stab you hear on the first track you posted will inevitably just have been sampled from another record (hence usually a minor note regardless of which note its played at). Someone recently released an old skool stab sample CD you should look it up.

If you are on a mission to make "that" sound, like me, first of all, you need to have the concept of that sound as clear as possible. Only one way to do it, get the records. As much as you can. :)
Dirt up your tracks, make it sound charismatic, nostalgic. Some crackle noises can do wonders.. Remember to make it sound as less electric/digital as possible..
As for VSTs, Minimonsta hasn't been mentioned yet. I find that one very useful.
Samples. They are the 808s and 909s mostly. If you want I can send you a nice package someone once sent me. :)
Edit: ah yes, as CalvP said, put yourself in their shoes. There are few good vids around that can help to put you in the correct atmosphere/mindset.
For example..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAv2YbSFhYU you probably already saw this one, watch it again! HOLY now in HD!

Np. :)
I am uploading the samples now, but my ISP is nazi so it's going slow.. I'll drop you a pm in the morning.
If anyone else wants the samples, drop me a pm. They are old analogue kicks, cymbals, claps, snares, tambourines, etc..
