I went to University in Windsor, and Detroit was just NASTY. Wayne State Medical Library was just a little into the city, so we used to cross over to access the numerous resources for projects and reports. We had to drive through the scariest neighbourhood I have ever seen. Massive empty houses, scary ppl. And the worst roads you can imagine. Potholes that would swallow a small car. We went over for a NYE party once, and we were right in the middle of a gang war. Gunshots heard all night, we saw a car get shot up just a block over from us when we were stopped at a red light. NOBODY was stopping for red lights. And the scene was awful - dirty, minimal, no lights and no decorations, ppl cracked out on the nastiest drugs.

No, not in the good way you're thinking. Like, lots of dirt on the floor and walls and in the fingernails of the ppl we met. There was just a hole in the ground where the toilet should have been. And minimal, like the sound system had 2 tiny speakers.

Toronto was less of a major city back in 1950s. But now you can't compare the two. I wonder if the decline will continue. It must be kind of depressing for some.

I'd like to visit Detriot one day.
