Ideas for promoting an event?

Besides handing out flyers and posting event pages/flyers on social media.

Any novel ideas you can think of or have used in the past?

This is for a party at an underground-ish lounge.

Drink deals for advance ticket buyers.

Networking is key! Get involved in the scene and make friends with promoters, DJ's, managers, anyone that likes the music you're shooting for.

'tis a free event. although maybe we could work something out for the first x amount of people in the door...

DjWoody, we're going to be hitting up events that have similar music to ours and handing out business card-size flyers for the event too :)

free entrance for girls.

Charge for the event. People avoid things that say "free" generally in my experience unless it is really something else (a big headliner). "Free" in the club world usually equates to crowd in many peoples heads (I speak only for myself and a few others i know of course, and by crowd i mean broke people...broke people in the club are wastes of space). Make it 5$ at least, if you don't attribute value to the party chances are not too many people will either and you will end up with a handful of friends, that's it.

Work out a "special" price on let's say redbull+vodka or something.

Interesting take. Actually this place is famous for being grimey with quality music, and people actually expect that kind of crowd.

They already have a house special $4 whiskey shot & PBR, which usually draws on its own.

I wasn't aware you could form an intelligent thought. But yeah, do this. And put on the flyer.

In my home town, every Sunday night, there was a club that had 75 cent drink specials. It was jam packed with every conceivable goon imaginable. Lesson learned: Cheap drinks attract trashy people who can't handle their booze and who don't have a lot of social skill, to begin with. Just an awful place.

I'm obviously just going on gut and don't know the venue. As Eddie says, the cheaper something is, usually the crowd will reflect it. If you are trying to build a successful night, the crowd will be as important as the music and everything else to be a success. If people come and the place is filled with frat boys, chances are they won't be coming back. Even a 2$ entry will help weed out some of these...you would be surprised at how some people are really not willing to pay even that. You do this to keep them away, because they wouldn't be bringing anything interesting to the table either way.
