I can bet there will be many customers using this as leverage to get the labels to pander to them for their business. Like, "I'll wait, but if you want to keep me you are going to have to make it up to me."...which is never profitable.
yes agreed but i think people that purchase vinyl in this day and age are a totally different folk than the ones that purchase a bluray player or a ps3 at best buy. the latter dont give a why there are no more players for purchase. People that purchase records would be much more understanding in this case as they know the situation with labels, how they operate and how much money they make off sales, they wouldn't bash a label for not sending them a record because the warehouse got burned down with all the stock and if there are people like that im sure they will get pounded online if they open their mouth. The only people to blame here are the arsonists that started the blaze..
I think the fact that they lost the pressings, records that maybe can't be repressed, printed, etc...
Insurance is insurance, but looksing records, original materials, artwork etc. I'm sure they have more than just stacks of CDs and wax in there.
Junior Boys had a bit of a FB post saying how they lost most of thier tangible music in that fire.

Not to mention that the time it will take to repress the stuff means that there will be 0 sales for the next little while. 0 sales = 0 profit, and losses. You still have to pay employees and such but have 0 revenue coming in.

Think of the positives though, beatport will be lovin it. I'm sure there's a lot of pressing companies that are thrilled... There could've also been a lot of crappy discs that would've gone unsold indefinitely but the record companies will get insurance money out of them.

There are not enough labels involved to have a huge impact on beatport, not to mention a lot of these back catalog releases for some of these labels are physical medium only.
There is still a large enough existance of "vinyl only" releases, and coming from an avid record collector they will buy off of places like discogs to compensate. Beatport is far from being the choice of many music fans, they already have a specific market cornered, the one affected by these riots are somewhat different.
I'm sure this will have some residual effect towards digital sales, but probably something on the smaller side.

Scumbags. Those rioters destroyed an important jewel of UK electronic music.
Those people make me sick - I have no pity for their "issues" with the police or the "system", because thats not how you deal with the problem - what they did is utterly despicable, so much damage and so many innocent people hurt (some killed), they may have wanted to hit the "system", but they mostly ended up hurting other people (many of whom are struggling to get by with everyday lives).
Put all those criminals in jail. I blame European governments for their mediocrity and ignorance - they failed to deal with the growing slums, poverty and social issues. Riots in France, Greece, UK, paves the pattern ... damn I am glad I live in Canada!

I think G20/G8 riots and Vancouver Stanley Cup riots would be in a separate category because they almost always happen (remember Vancouver in 1994? or most previous G8/G20's) ... anarchists from the around the world gather for a excuse to vent their anger and cause havoc. The scale of the riots in UK (many cities), following the shooting of one man by police, cannot be compared even to the recent riots in Canada.
