Sleepy & Boo [BasicNYC]:
Sleepy & Boo play electronic music of all shapes and sizes, rocking rooms big and small across New York City and beyond. They love thick drums, big basslines, hypnotic grooves and tripped-out sci-fi synthesizers, and know how to put it all together. Forget sticking to just one genre — as DJs, they are known for their diversity and their knack for picking tracks from across the musical spectrum. Whether taking the crowd on a twisted late night excursion, or pushing peak-hour mayhem, Sleepy & Boo never fail to turn a dancefloor inside out.
From their home base in New York, Sleepy & Boo have become preeminent players in the Big Apple’s dynamic underground music scene. For the last six years, they’ve been the resident DJs and driving force behind Basic NYC, their celebrated Saturday night throwdown at New York’s infamous Sullivan Room. At the party, Sleepy & Boo have played alongside and hosted the world’s most important DJs, all performing to a packed house of energetic music lovers. It’s an event that’s recognized for its diversity, with partygoers treated to a huge range of talent and sounds (everyone from Kaskade to Jeff Mills have been guests over the years). Named as New York’s “Best Dance Party 2009” by New York Magazine in April, Basic NYC has become an international destination for clubbers eager to catch world-class DJs in an intimate, down-and-dirty space.
Apart from their own events, the duo is consistently DJing at the best parties in New York, and work regularly with the city’s most important event organizers. They have been featured at both editions of Made Event’s Electric Zoo Festival, and have performed around the world in England, Germany, Japan and Spain (including a summer 2010 set for Space Ibiza’s BE party). On any given weekend in New York, Sleepy & Boo can be heard playing regular sets and guest spots at notable venues like Cielo, Pacha, Santos Party House, and Water Taxi Beach. They’ve opened up for some of the world’s biggest artists, DJing alongside the most important top-tier DJs – Steve Lawler, James Zabiela, Steve Angello, Timo Maas, deadmau5, M.A.N.D.Y, Danny Howells, and many more. Every year, they also take Basic NYC to Miami for the Winter Music Conference, where their daytime, outdoor events at the Beach Plaza Hotel have become some of the WMC’s most anticipated annual fiestas. They have recently launched their own monthly residency at Cielo, where Sleepy & Boo are the headlining guests, joined by their own supporting artists and friends.
Sleepy & Boo have worked tirelessly to bring quality, cutting-edge dance music to New York’s clubbers, both through their own DJ sets, and the events they organize. With their S&B Sessions podcast now up on iTunes, and plans for a digital label in the works, Sleepy & Boo continue to look for new ways to share their enthusiasm and love for this music and culture.
Connie [reSolute & Nosi Music]:
Born and raised in Queens, New York City, Connie appeared in the electronic music scene eight years ago and has become a familiar face in the NYC underground house/techno scenes. Connie has spun her eclectic mix of funky house, tech house, electro, acid, minimal and techno all over the world and alongside the most talented DJs/producers, like Magda, Trentemoller, James Holden, Italoboyz, Vincenzo, Michal Ho, Nico Purman, Guy Gerber, Davide Squillace, Alka_rex, Mark Henning, Sweet & Candy, Jeff Bennett, Konrad Black, Terry Mullan, Jesse Rose, Adultnapper, Nick Warren, Misstress Barbara, Patrick Chardronnet, Jay Tripwire, Jason Jinx, Chris Duckenfield (SWAG), Ladytron, Jimmy van M, Camea, and the Hacker. Connie has spun regularly at NYC's top venues like Crobar, Pacha, Sullivan Room, Love & Cielo, but also DJs at more underground but high-profiled events and parties, eg. In March 2006, Connie won the Village Voice DJ Spinoff Contest and spun at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. In March 2007, Connie spun at the infamous Sunday School for Degenerates party at the Pawnshop in Miami, opening the terrace for an all-star line-up! In June 2008, Connie spun at Canada's top electronic dance party - Piknic Electronik, in Montreal!
Oscar Rojas [Criminal Sound]:
Latest mix: http://soundcloud.com/criminalsoundmusic/oscar-rojas
Born and raised in the Washington, DC area, Oscar Rojas has been a DJ, promoter and avid dance music aficionado for over 9 years now. His musical roots date back to the early age of 13 when he studied music, learned to play guitar and went on to join several local rock bands. Early influences included everything from 80's synth pop to 90's rock/metal.
Music remained a vital part of his everyday life and in 1998 grew to include electronic dance music. Oscar has performed and organized events in the Washington DC area's most reputable venues and various other major cities on the east coast. He is known for both his deep sexy warm-up sets and his driving peak hour slots which range anywhere from deep/tech house to funky/progressive house. This 'on the fly' versatility and careful attention to the technical aspects of the art of DJ'ing are what have set him apart through the years. This can also be credited to countless hours spent on his never ending quest to find quality dance music and customizing various productions with his own re-edits. Be on the look out for original productions by Oscar Rojas in the coming months.
