The foundation of style is process. The more your individual process develops, the more your individual style will, as well. There really is nothing more to it than that and the only thing you should really be doing is doing.

by experimenting and combining different genres. All my stuff sounds very progressive now that I do that, and it means to can listen and say "Hey, that's OAE!"

I'd say that your own sound is a combination of all of your influences and your vision. Too many EDM producers seem to be focused on trying to emulate the EDM flavor of the month, and that's what leads to all the stale/copycat EDM out there (at least in my observations). To find your own sound, you should try to find a way to incorporate the elements from ANY musical style that you like, not just the most recent big-name artist's sound. From there it's a matter of developing your own vision,.......and that's usually the hard part.
I think that one way to set yourself apart from the crowd in EDM is to focus on the musical aspects (e.g., melody/harmony) because that's the area that seems to get explored the least in most dance music.

Ok, now being serious, it's what dave said. Both consciously and unconsciously, your sound is an amalgamation of influences and personal artistic direction. Many producers try too hard to create a specific sound - in some cases it work for commercial reasons, but musically it sounds contrived or forced, giving a product rather than a production.
For me. it's a weird combination of the things I like by recent/current producers and influences from early EDM (which to me, had soul, even if it lacked technological flair compared to todays standard). I'm always searching for that "soul" and I hope to somehow find it.
Alright, I'll put the jazz cigarette down now and be quiet. Carry on.

All of us hear guys who have a sound that's theirs, and they make what everyone else is making but better.
Then you have the super rare guys who make a sound that's not only theirs, but you know who made the song without looking at the title and artist of the song you're listening to. I mean you know it's a Burial song, or an Andy Moor song, or a Mathew Jonson song because they all have distinctive sounds.
So who do I become one of those super rare guys? :(

That's because he's one of the most predictable artists on the planet. After a while of pushing the same sound you become like a caricature of yourself and that's not necessarily a good thing. There is something negative to be said about these artists that find something that works, and then beat the into the ground to the point where one track is indistinguishable from the next. The reason you can tell it's a Burial song is because there are certain things that he does in every song, namely the Metal Gear Solid clip and shell samples and vinyl static with the high-end cut and tons of reverb to give it a ghostly scratchy feel. So if you want to be one of those artists, mess around until you find something that works and then do it again and again and again.
Cryo and others have already nailed it, but I will say this: It's important to know what you want to hear, and then having the capacity to create that thing that you want to hear.
