John Veis - 6 AM
Alternate sections and arpeggios flow upwards into a break that capitalises on the grandiosity with huge, bashing snare rolls, before flooring you on the drop. This might all be too much for some, but it distils and fortifies all the right bits in all the right ways.
John Veis in "6 AM" shows a little puffs of smoke gently break into glowing swells and piano chords, upping the groove and the gravity just as gently later on. It's all carried along by a pattering house undercurrent; nothing major, but enough for it to go in the record bag rather than just staying at home for those late night sessions.
Fabio T. remix slows things down, with Berlin-friendly scratchy chords scuffing the surface of what is essentially the duo's own implicitly junglist take on breakneck techno. Unexpected breaks fizzle and bubble from nowhere, dolorous chords hint at dubby dread, and an analogue bassline flails and squelches.
