I dont see what layton did to deserve any measure of hero worship. Seems that some people hate harper so much that anyone on the opposite to harper with a degree of charisma gets hero worship.

I disagree.

But we're not here to debate.

RIP Jack.

Lol. Candles for jack? Isnt it a bit too melodramatic?

It's a nice gesture to a man worthy of it.

Wow, what a shocker to wake up to this morning! He was the most down to earth and most easy to relate to politician that I've grown up watching/hearing. His views and potential leadership tactics would've been history in the making for Canada.

RIP :(

It be interesting to see Thomas Mulcair get the top job, I just wonder why Layton didn't choose him from the start though.

yes, but none of the new leaders will be well know figures to the public, or at least as known imo

Liberal and NDP are leaderless. At least NDP has momentum....liberals are in the s

overall, i feel bad regarding his death. I had no idea how far in he was with the cancer. He passed away within a month of taking a leave from politics to work on his illness.

His last memo was pretty good and inspirational. He targeted many audiences specifically.

The whole cancer thing scares me as my father-in-law was just diagnosed for prostate cancer and it's spread quite a bit... so it worries me!

RIP Jack 'NDP' Layton

I never thought I'd feel such sadness at the loss of a politician. Layton led with such sincerity and optimism. It's a tragedy to lose him right before he was able to fill the position of opposition leader, which he worked so hard to attain. What a big loss for Canada. RIP

Def crazy to hear his passing. I flew on the same plane as him and his wife when I went to Newfoundland few years ago. Went through the security just a few people in front of me. The strength to write a letter like that in a time of death must have been extremely difficult but shows his strength to his very last. RIP and it was a great effort put forth

This reads like "hero worship" to me.

RIP Mr. Layton. You will be missed.

As for the letter...

quote:
The letter was first presented as Mr. Layton’s last message to Canadians, as something written by him on his deathbed; only later was it more fully described as having been “crafted” with party president Brian Topp, Mr. Layton’s chief of staff Anne McGrath and his wife and fellow NDP MP Olivia Chow.
