CKLN/CHRY VINTAGE VINYL PARTY & SALE! SATURDAY AUGUST 27!

February 12, 2011 was a dark day for fans of local community radio, as the CRTC revoked the FM broadcasting licence of Ryerson-based station CKLN (88.1FM), citing chronic mismanagement and failure to meet the terms of its licence. And now, as a result, the station—which continues to broadcast online at www.CKLN.fm—will have to move house as well, since the loss of its FM-radio signal means CKLN can no longer enjoy the luxury of free rent on campus, as per its agreement with Ryerson University.
CKLN’s operations will soon be split across two locations: a broadcast studio in the Regent Park Focus Youth Media Arts Centre, and an administrative office in the Centre for Social Justice at 489 College. And with the move comes a considerable reduction in space. But what’s bad news for the station is good news for local record collectors—this Saturday (Aug. 27), CKLN will be selling off its vinyl collection, which numbers in the thousands. And given the crucial role CKLN has played over the past three decades in establishing Toronto’s hip-hop, indie-rock and dance-music communities, prospective attendees should be prepared for maximum bank-balance damage.
The sale will be held in the Thomas Lounge on the first floor of the Ryerson Student Centre (55 Gould), and will also feature offerings from York University’s CHRY and other record dealers. Eager beavers can pay $10 to gain special firsties access from 9-11 a.m.; admission is $5 after that.

How could they funk this up so badly?? Terrible shame.
