I met Shep a few times at Guv and he was always very cool to chat with...
I'd love to sit with him and pick his brain on the history of the Toronto scene...
MDM8, your lucky to have him as your neighbor to get to hear some stories...

He's told me a few but he's fairly private about it. I respect that - he's a really really nice guy. Hoping he opens up to me enough to sit down and talk music one day.

I like Shep. He's got some great stories and he's just a genuinely nice guy.
He sold his house in North York and lives full time around Haliburton now.
He will be playing again this year at Footwork on Boxing Day.

Interesting to note that Shep did rock and industrial at first, then was a host on Edge 102 and right after that got into EDM.

Chris Sheppard was big in the day. Canadian house and euro music was a hot commodity. Energy 108 / HOT 103 / Power 88.5 were the source of my electronic music upbringing (I wasn't even a teenager quite yet).
And Love Inc.
He had some great parties under DJ monicker Dogwhistle back in the day. I have most of his mixes on CD or digital format, still fresh!
Not that unusual... if you were in the "club" scene in the early '90's in Toronto (GoGo, Twilight Zone, etc) there was very little of what we would now call EDM. It was mainly alternative dance stuff by Depeche Mode, New Order, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, etc. There was a small house scene but it never got played on the radio and only in 1 or 2 clubs. Slowly a few tracks broke the EDM surface like Testfour, The Spice, Injected with a Poison or whatever that track was called and many of us "industrial dance" fans latched on quickly. The man who took us on that journey was Shep.

He is doing/has completed his PhD in neuroscience yes? I nearly fell off my chair when someone told me that. Very cool.
Holy , talk about flashbacks. Man I was in grade 10 at the time. My buddy/locker partner used to sell "stuff" to Dave Marsden, the station manager at the time. It was mostly due to this station that I turned mainly towards dance music via Sheppard and Dr. Trance (Don Burns).

I was listening to Marsden on his show on 94.9 The Rock last night - lots of excellent retro tracks! He's on every Saturday and Sunday from 7-Midnight. His announcing delivery is entertainment itself lol.
Big Boss
I remember listening to his pirate radio show from RPM and waiting to turn 19.
He was a pioneer.

Got a couple of his CDs from second hand stores, Pirate Radio Sessions V5, Destination Dance Floor II.
