How do you find out about a party?

The other thread got me thinking what forms of promoting/marketing convince people to attend certain events. Rank them below:
WINS:
1. Word of mouth ( I usually have friends that tell me about a party before anything official is announced).
2. Email (this could be a mass email or personal email from someone in the biz)
3. A “personal” facebook message or post. I don’t really look at those invite things (get too many)
4. Social Forums like tranceaddict.com (hell yeah!!). People tend to post even before the event is made public (score!!).
5. Flyers (pretty much a dying art but occasionally, I get a flyer with something interesting on it).
6. Billboards. I saw a billboard for EDC which 2010. I already knew about the event after seeing it, we were convinced to attend.
FAILS:
a) Text blasts don’t really do anything for me. Really just a reminder of an event I don’t plan on attending.
b) Posters. I’ve hung up a lot of posters in my day but honestly… I don’t ever really look at them
c) Banners/flyers at the top of Tranceaddicts West Coast Forum (SWAMPPPEERRRR!!!)
d) …
I know a lot of you stalkers like to follow your favorite dj’s and find out when they are playing in your city.

Pretty much the same for me, except for Emails. I tend to trash them and not open them unless they're from a club I know. I get too much spam.

Words of mouth, as in, from 10 - 11:30pm, a text, a tweet or a phone call from a friend that a place is cracking. People arrive in doves in no time if a place starts to crack. San Francisco is relatively small. People can usually go from one venue to another within 15 minutes. Folks pretty much grow numb to any form of massive media. The Dirty Birds lately do almost no massive media type of marketing/promotion for their events, but they know how to throw a party, so people show up.

1. I'm usually the instigator and always telling my friend to come out to shows
2. I am signed up for a few e-mail lists--- Giant, Avalon, Departure Friday @ vanguards that I check occasionally for guest list, etc
3. Facebook invites from friends, promoters, DJs
4. I find out a lot about shows through this forum!
5. Flyers---but by the time I get them I usually know about an event already

and I'm totally guilty of following my favorite DJs on Facebook. I also look up wantickets/flavor us from time to time and see who's playing
Tosh
1. word-of-mouth
2. artists facebooks
3. facebook invites
4. TA (this used to be MUCH higher)
5. on my own, by searching artists pages and talking to them.

Fliers are mostly done for unless a promoter sneaks out show detials to fliers (like Nocturnal this year where the full lineup was announced on fliers.)
