Ecstasy 'could be used in cancer treatment'
Ecstasy could be used to cure cancer after scientists modified the drug to increase its tumour-killing properties.

Researchers from Birmingham University claimed the designer drug, also known as MDMA, could be used to treat leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma after making it 100 times more effective at suppressing growth.
Ecstasy was already known to be effective against more than half of white blood cell cancers, but previously the large dose required to treat a tumour would also have killed the patient.
In a study published in the Investigational New Drugs journal, the scientists said the new drug could be used by doctors to treat cancer if it can be produced in a safe form.
Lead author Professor John Gordon said: "This is an exciting next step towards using a modified form of MDMA to help people suffering from blood cancer.
"While we would not wish to give people false hope, the results of this research hold the potential for improvement in treatments in years to come."

The health risks of taking ecstasy

Dr Julie Sharp of Cancer Research UK said: "As MDMA is a dangerous drug, the researchers need also to find out if they can create safe versions to treat people with the disease.
"Although survival rates for leukaemia have improved over the past thirty years new approaches to treatment are still needed to tackle this disease even more effectively." |

So if Sasha Rodriguez hadn't of overdosed, she'd have been immune to cancer?
too soon? |

Despite what doctors might say, it's typically not taking care of yourself while on MDMA that leads to issues. Not the MDMA itself. Thing is when you don't take care of yourself and you die because of it, the autopsy will just say it was the MDMA.
BTW, amazed the media didn't really bring it up, but her friends said she was slipped a drug that night. But of course, they don't care and I just saw it briefly mentioned.
BTW, she was hallucinating bigtime that night and they say it was MDMA? Hmmmmmmm....
Still think the autopsy was fixed. |

Ya, it is important to note that most, if not all, ecstasy "overdoses" are due to tainted pills or lack of proper maintenance of yourself while on it (dehydration/over-hydration/exhaustion/etc.).
I'm actually very interested in any possible medical benefits of MDMA or a "modified-MDMA."
Apparently MDMA has been very beneficial to end-stage cancer patients (coping with death, enjoying life despite insurmountable pain and fear, etc.). And early reports are that MDMA does have medical benefits to white blood cell related cancers? So that's really interesting to know.
If the government and the FDA actually regulated MDMA, and by association, ecstasy, there would be a lot fewer "overdoses" on it because the whole tainted production of some batches would (hopefully?) be eliminated.
EDIT: I don't wanna diverge too from the main point of the thread, my earlier post was literally just a joke that ravers who use ecstasy and don't die from it will potentially be cancer-free. But I do want to say, I do not agree that she was given water containing ecstasy...I really think she knew she was taking it and she was just an idiot with it. |

| Yeah I don't buy that she was given a spiked water bottle one bit, but we'll never know. |

Anything beneficial is going to get squashed by our government. If good things come out, they will be from other countries not USA. The government wont let it self put money into something "illegal."
GO UK!! |

Definitely taken by choice. Her friends are just trying to preserve her innocence. |

she died from "MDMA", blame the scene/event
if she had graduated top of her class...became a successful women, kudos to the parents.
Parents never take the blame. The responsibility never falls onto the individual. |

Peter Jennings approved of MDMA. Here is an ABC special from early last decade.
