Cubase - How to sidechain only a single bus member?

I'm using Cubase 5. Say I have 5 percussion channels and I bus them all to a channel called Drums so I can apply FX or do whatever to all of them. The way I sidechain in Cubase, I need to bus a channel to the sidechain, so is there a way to somehow sidechain one of these 5 percussion channels while still keeping it bused to the Drum channel? As it is now, I have to un-bus any channel I want to sidechain.
Thanks for any ideas! |

i've got cubase but never really worked with it after about 4yrs ago or so
to be sidechained perc > sidechain bus > perc bus and
rest of the perc > perc bus
makes the most sense I guess... Maybe someone else can be a bit more insightful as to what the possibilities are. Good luck. |

Yeah, that's what I'd do too.
Edit: Or if I was too lazy I'd probably just draw up a 1 bar filter/gain/eq/whatever automation on the perc in question and just copy it throughout the track. |

Another option that will work as it's C5
-you could add a compressor as an insert to the perc channel you want to sidechain, enable the 'sidechain' button on the top left of the plugin, and then in the sends of the sidechain trigger(or kick) select the new compressor you added, enable it and bring the slider up to effect it as much/little as you like.
That way you have more freedom to alter individual settings for the percussion channel while it still goes to the perc bus and doesn't affect the rest of the percs.
Not sure if this method works with compressors other than the built-in Cubase ones though. |
