Beatport Bias Against Anything Not Minimal or House?

Honest question, but does anyone else get the vibe that Beatport is anti Trance or Progressive? Not like minimal progressive, but like progressive trance or progressive like Matt Lange? Just seems like every time I go to beatportal they are hyping some new minimal, or house (not really progressive house) but like tech house.
For instance, check out their latest article about Arty on beatportal. They just give trance a backhanded complement. And ever notice when beatport has a remix competition its always some really slow, weird, or not even that good song?
Just seems like with beatport being the main place people go for music and the biggest contributor to mainstream EDM, you would think they would round out their staff and get people who all didnt seem to have the same taste. Are there no trance or progressive fans in Denver?
Anyone else get this vibe or am I just crazy? |

| I tried running a trance night in Denver in 2004 - good luck with that one! It's a house town! Tbf I like beatport and prefer it to the uk"s trackitdown site. Easier to use for a start and the hold bin is a lot more reliable! I've lost a fortnights tunes on tid! I just think there's a lot more house produced than trance and it's still the biggest club sound seemingly. |

I mean I totally understand why. Trance is torrent fodder it doesnt sell. House sells WAY more. Im just saying that dont you think all genres should get a fair shot? I love beatport, I think its the best. But dont you think they should give some more love to labels like Black Hole, Armada, Enhanced, etc.? I mean the founders of beatport are Manufactured Superstars, dont you think they should show a bit more love to the genre they are even in as well?
I think trance is just misunderstood. I can stand old style trance. The like epicy over the top old euro trance and I think thats what everyone thinks of when they think of trance. The problem I think is that trance just never got into the whole sub-genre thing like house. There are like 20 different versions of house but they categorize a ton of music as just trance. |

| I think one of the problems trance suffers from is as you say that old euro image but also because I don't think the leading names are the best representatives of the genre whereas the opposite appears to me to be true of house. I think great trance tunes tend to be by track rather than artist. I'm not convinced at all with people like ferry or armin yet take Alex morph - always consistent but doesn't have the aforementioned status. I never thought I'd ever say this as a trance nut but the quality of house at the moment is keeping it up there. It just seems to get harder and harder to find top drawer trance that's musical yet not cheesy because that to me is the essence of what trance should be about. |

Most download sites have their niche areas of specialty, in addition to carrying tracks representing most other electronic genres, and Beatport simply chooses to emphasize Tech House and Techno above most other genres. As far as Trance is concerned, they most certainly keep their selections up to date on whatever is being championed by the mainline headliners and labels (after all, 'Now Available on Beatport' is something you want any style of producer to link on their page), but they obviously don't invest much time and effort beyond that.
Nothing wrong with that, especially since Audiojelly picks up most of Trance slack, anyway. |

Exactly. If you go on Trackitdown they have a remix competition for Sean Tyas. Go on Digital-Tunes and the featured track is dubstep. Beatport is the biggest online store, and it specialises in the most popular genres. House and tech are popular almost anywhere you go. |

It's a shame, too, that only a handful of people who live here (including me) love trance |
