Mix-wise: Low end seems a little underpowered, high-end, conversely, is too prominent. An impressive start, none-the-less, in terms of its clarity.
It almost seems like you have some notion that, to be true to dubstep, you have to have a little bro-step thrown in there even though it also seems you don't really like bro-step. If bro-step is your thing, I don't want to discourage you from it but there are other facets to the dubstep genre that don't involve an obligatory, in-your-face, ball-shredding saw-form bass-line held prominently in the low-mid range of the spectrum at the expense of more melodic, atmospheric parts. If you're going for a Nero-Remix-of-Calvin-Harris-tune, you're on the right path but the intensity of your song is fledgling.
Rhythmically, it didn't have much capacity to keep my attention and there were certain parts where it seemed like you were trying to carry an increase in intensity, using only one or two tracks, where a more unified attack, considering the breadth of the arrangement, could have created the desired effect.
The song itself is a good first offering - much better than a lot of my first stuff. For all of its basic musicality, it has consistent enough of a structure to demonstrate a compositional ability to progress past where you are, as a producer. While it shows you have a way to go, you're off, at least, to a good start. |
