Underworld - Dark & Long (Dark Train)/Christian Smith Mixes

A couple remixes of Underworld's classic hit that many remember as the last song on the Northern Exposure mix from Christian Smith who has been in the game for at least a decade with many quality tracks and nice dark prog chuggers.

The Tronic Treatment starts out nicely but as soon as it sounds like it's getting into the meat it loses energy and syncopated minimal clicky rhythms take over and it just takes too much time to build up the same energy again. I did like the use of the vocal pads and similar rhythms.

Being a fan of both producers this sadly disappointed me. It could have been something better; it seemed too rushed and should have been darker and longer. But I guess it is a remix.

The Hypnotica Dub is where it's at though. Nothing groudbreaking but it's darker and resembles what the title is.

I'm interested in what others think of this.

I feel dark and long dark train mix is a classic that's perfect and in no way shape or form needs to be remixed. I listened to these and all it does is make me want to hear the classic.
Not saying i can do any better. Just my opinion. :toothless

Completely unnecessary. Have some balls and just play the original, .

Decent remixes, the original is the beez-neez though

He did a good job updating a classic with the remixes of At Les, but these ones are just too similar to the original to sound worthwhile. The Tronica mix just sounds like the original with different percussion and some structural rejigging - pointless. The dub is a potentially interesting DJ tool, but no more.

That's pretty much what it did for me.

Yeah, that's all I really see it as. Their is just something about the bassline that makes the track sound so generic with seemingly no effort given and very empty sounding spots. Is this tech-house, cuz its listed as techno?

I'm actually surprised no one has attempted this way earlier.

I'd still call this progressive house. And someone did quite a similar remix a couple of years back, gave it away for free on TA: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=528746

I agree with the first five comments, not much to add to those.
