You have to understand though, that I played the first set of the day...11:15 - 12:15 in the Hillside Tent. People were just getting there, checking out the grounds, meeting up with friends, etc... It would have been a bit weird to start dropping bombs right out of the gate with such a small crowd there...at least in my opinion anyway.

If I had played a set later in the day though, it would have been a totally different ball game. :)

BTW, curious: read an article in Mixmag from one of the editors who had to spin at a corporate gig, digging as low to the bottom of his record pile as to reach for Barry Manilow (LMAO), completely disguisted with himself.

I know that for any DJ spinning at EZ is a priviledge but wanted to know, how does it feel when you're spinning and have to hold it back - is it still fun or are you secretly wishing that ", I hope I could drop some sick bangers, the timing!"?

I guess even if you get some people moving, it's still gotta be fun but if you had to be an opener for say next few years - would you still aspire/do it? Just curious.

Of course I would have loved to play a more peak-time slot this past weekend. Don't get me wrong though, I loved the music I played and had a great time spinning on that huge setup and on such a massive event. But sure...it would have of course been "cooler" to be able to drop bombs to a packed out tent like say, ATB did. I don't think any dj would prefer to play the early slot as opposed to peak time. But you gotta pay your dues and work your way up. I was beyond pumped to even be asked to play this year. :)

were you trying to put people to sleep? man that was boring, mind-numbing afterhours stuff. definitely not warm up the crowd material at all.

harsh... I think the man made his point rather well and took a classy high road - so, cut him some slack. Must be doing something right to be asked to perform.

Not unless your name is Afrowhack and you're blowing Guetta on a regular basis.

lol. Well, I am sorry it wasn't your cup of tea listening on a computer from Texas. My main goal was to play a warm-up set for the crowd that showed up at Randalls Island that day to hear me play...and for whats its worth, they seemed pretty into it. Not sure what you would want to hear at 11:15 in the morning at the beginning of a 12 hour festival day...?

Out of curiousity, what kind of music do you usually listen to? I only ask because "warm-up" music is completely subjective and relative to the situation and the lineup. I got to check out some of the warm up acts in some of the other tents before and after I played, and some of those djs played straight up deep house. But it was totally perfect for the time of day, setting, and the crowd at the time. Of course, if you were to tune in expecting to hear trance bombs that early, you might very well be in for a "mindnumbing experience" as you put it. :toothless
