Hey nefardec just wondering if you've heard many other mixes in the style of this and Eat Your Heart Out? Anything that has influenced these? I thought that the System J TA Classics game might have some mixes more along these lines but a lot of them are a bit too 'all over the place' for my liking. There's something quite cohesive about these sets that I really enjoy.

Though it's a bit more ambient, this is quite a left of centre mix that you might enjoy:

It's the set called "l'effet papillon."

Thanks I'll check that out.

Honestly I am inspired by the music itself, and the things going on in my life. Deejaying for me is a way to put together all of the different stuff I'm into, into something that can be communicated to others. It's also a way for me to indulge my fantasies.

One DJ I always check out is Jonny 5, this guy in the UK who contributes to the blog 'infinitestatemachine'. He plays the most ridiculous and wonderful music, all vinyl, most of it extremely special and rare. He digs a lot of old stuff but also plays the new and the reissued, which requires devotion and is pretty admirable in itself, not to mention that the deejaying is fantastic.

Here's all of his mixes:

Some of the other contributors to that blog do good stuff too. It's all good music but it's centered around house and techno.

Another DJ I think is awesome is DJG, jonathan graham:

He contributes to this blog I love called '[sqwelsch]', along with other really good selectors.

These are probably the two contemporary DJs I look up to the most in terms of selection.

Scott Ferguson does some pretty great eclectic sets, as do Juju and Jordash.

Then of course the classic inluence on me is David Mancuso:

I have a couple friends who put together stuff kind of like this mix, this guy has amazing taste in music, but it tends to be mostly newer stuff, whereas I like to dig older stuff too. I don't think he has a lot of stuff online at the moment though.

People on the discogs forum will occassionally post these kind of things. I've been inspired in the past by the 'minerals' series (http://www.discogs.com/groups/topic/154513) but it's mostly post-rock and ambient stuff with the same kind of sound.

Wow thanks so much for that list :) going to have a lot of fun checking out all that stuff, it looks amazing.

I know what you mean by indulging in your fantasies, I got that a bit from your Dream of The Earth set you posted a while back. For ages I'd been planning to throw something together for a kind of late night summer soul/jazz kind of set, taking in music from Shuggie Otis, Alice Coltrane, Gil Scott Heron, Terre Thaemlitz etc. and a bunch of ambient cassette tape stuff from the 'pontone spectral cassette' series. Never quite got off the ground but it is fun to let your mind wander.
