Nord Lead?

I have a Virus TI. I produce PsyTrance. It is said that the Nord Lead has got some special crunchiness good for cutting psytrance leads and stuff...

Thing is, I had a NL 2x, but sold...either it was because it sounded to soft compared to a 1 or 2, or cause I had to little experience at the time...or?...

Anyway, the thing is can't Virus do the kind of stuff NL is good at? Don't say try before u buy cause I have no place to do that. That's why I need ur help guys, not to spend other hard earned money in vain.
I must mention I also got an Evolver and a Tetra. (also I must mention I just bought a Supernova, only to realize Virus can do everything it can do and more...so money thrown away :( )

Thanks a lot!

I've got the Virus KC and Nord Rack 2. I feel they're quite different in character but there's some overlap as well of course. Nords overal just sound a bit better with dry harsh sounds, which is, if I'm not mistaking, a big part of the psytrance music.

As far as I know there's practically no difference between the Nord Lead 2 and 2x apart from having more voices and better DA converters on the 2x.

You can always sell the supernova you know ;), but that one also sounds a bit different than a Virus or Nord.

I personally would rather own a Nord than a Supernova or any other synth with that typical Novation sound (KS series come to mind).

Anyone else which had experience with the Nord Lead and with one of my synths: virus , tetra, evolver?

Yes, all of the above, well except for the Tetra, but I've owned two Prophet 08s and two Mophos, so yeah. However, I have no idea what people are talking about when they say that the Nord has some "special crunchiness" for psytrance? I've owned the NL1, 2, 2X, and 3 and I've had each of them side-by-side with a Virus. Yes there are subtle differences between the different Nord models, but I doubt that many people could ID the different models in a blind test (or in a mix). So I personally wouldn't use that as my reason to buy a Nord. That said, Nord makes excellent synths. I didn't think I'd ever prefer another Nord model over the NL2X, but then I owned a NL3 for a while and it was by far my favorite. But, I don't make psytrance, so YMMV.

Not sure how helpful this is, since it's all very subjective, so the only way to know for sure is to rely on your own opinion. That probably means buying one knowing that you may end up selling it, or trying to find some hi-quality A/B comparisons of the NL2 with different Nord/Virus models. I've seen some over the years - search TA, Google, youtube, and especially gearslutz.

BTW, with your current lineup, a Nord will add very little that you don't already have covered IMO and I suspect that this is mostly just a case of gearlust (not that there's anything wrong with that). :)

What is so special about NL sound? Or what makes it so special? filter, oscilators, what? TO me looks pretty limited with only 2 oscilators with basic waves and just one filter. I mean can't be better than a Mopho filter or analog oscilator right?...?
