I need help...
I posted this in a thread in West Coast but I think I'll have better luck here:

"I just got TWC installed earlier today.
I'm pretty unhappy with the service already.
I'm not strong enough, technically, to really work my way around all of this...
I want to say that I'm being throttled, but I felt that was more of a "if you're using too much bandwith, maybe they'll cut you back" type of thing, whereas I only now had it installed so bandwith shouldn't be an issue. Currently, if I'm running utorrent, my internet doesn't seem to work at all / works ridiculously slowly. I get 1.1 - 1.3mbps on utorrent and 'could not find server' on the internet. Running a network diagnostic thing I've found 1) "there seems to be a problem with your dns server" (it's set to 'automatically assign' and 2) "windows has confirmed that there is a problem with your connection"

I don't really know what to do. If this is going to be the order of the day I don't want to continue using this service. I think something must be improperly configured here though.

I ran glasnost for bittorrent and it read : "Your ISP appears to rate limit downloads on port 6881. In our tests, downloads on port 6881 achieved up to 3576 Kbps while downloads on port 53230 achieved up to 2514 Kbps." which doesn't make any sense to me.

But yeah, the long and short of it seems to be - i can't use the internet while utorrent is running, even though utorrent is still able to download. what. the. .

HALP"

Don't LMGTFY please. It seems like there are a few threads related to this on the utorrent forum, but either the forum is down or I can't access it for whatever reason.

Maybe my ISP is limiting the number of connections I can make, or something like that?

I've never had this problem with previous service providers..

Limit your upload speed, try like 20KBps and then see how it works.

So if you turn off utorrent everything works fine?

Doesn't seem to help.

Within ~1minute of utorrent being shut down, my browser connects seamlessly again.

Download Vuze as a bit torrent client and test everything out. I have a feeling its utorrent and not youre isp.

I am sure Warner are tards for copyright.

Would not suprise me in the slightest if they restrict heavily or even disable p2p/bit torrent services. Can you configure bit torrent to run through a different port?

I've never use the thing so I wouldn't know.

Also run a speed test online and post results.

I use utorrent fine.

Try limiting your download speed too, you say you get 1.3MBps down?

Try limiting it to 1MB/1000KBps down.

Who knows TWC might just suck at prioritizing data and you are choking yourself.

I am on Comcast and I sustain 1.3 down often and can browse fine.

so google has old addresses for the utorrent threads...i realized that if i take the viewtopic# and use forum.staging.utorrent, i find the thread.

So i tried doing all of the following (at the same time):
-max upload to 20
-max connections to 100
-max connect/torrent to 35

This hasn't helped the problem at all.

I guess it's something I can live with - run torrents when i'm not using comp - but it's stupid and i feel like there must be some sort of solution here.

utorrent forums are in retarded with the new name or whatever. but i just found this http://forum.staging.utorrent.com/v...ic.php?id=15992 so maybe it'll help

with any luck i'll be able to fix my own problem, but i doubt it

Yeah. My initial (knee-jerk) reaction was "this in new isp..." and started to read people's complaints about twc on the web. I hadn't experienced the problem with any other isps. I still thing twc are in some way responsible (maybe it has to do with the fact that i'm in an apt building on what's likely a large shared bandwith or whatever instead of at home with my own goodies? I don't think TWC have outright prohibited torrents from running, they maybe just have stricter limits on certain things than my other isp had.

Yeah, I can change the ports.
Other people on TWC commented in the west coast thread noting that they never had any similar issues.
I just ran speedtest.net and have: 13.35 mbps down, .96 mbps up

It doesn't seem to be related to my dl speed though. It's just that utorrent somehow seems to be firewalling my browser, or idk. Even when I pause all torrents, if utorrent is still open the browser won't run.

Thanks guys I'm gonna see what I can work out with my previous post.
