I am , like the rest of the audio community generally worried about the future. So redact your post and lick a dick you obnoxious prick. This isn't a pro pc thread, this is a what the is lion and what does it mean for audio professional. Please understand that my threads are meant for smart good looking people so not only have you violated the production rules as set forth by diginut ( that bit is in the small print ) but if you were being tongue and cheek, I didn't laugh. In fact i would respect a well aimed low ball than a half assed witticism. |

I don't follow what provoked the rageface here, but the general theme I'm getting is not upgrading unless you really need to, once you find what works.
3 ipads though...I can't seem to figure that out. One for you, one for the gf...and a third to keep by the crapper? |

| Well maybe you should consider a fourth one. I don't know about you, but the crapper is where I have had many brilliant musical epiphanies, only to have them fade by the time I get back to my DAW. A tragedy, really... |

You obviously haven't seen the Starship bridge that is L4C's production rig. runs off dilithium crystals when it's not being self powered by pure awesomeness.
Back OT, Lion is a bit of a up as far as stability and audio is concerned. It doesn't bother me though, as I come form the mindset of a Pro tools environment where you don't upgrade your system until that software is at least 6 months to a year old. In most cases, you'll find that any working studio is on the previous OS release and previous version of protools. You just learn to live to that timeline - you're always basically 6/12 months behind whatever the latest config is, at that's the only thing worth considering when time and stability equals money.
I have no desire to switch to lion anyway. I don't see what improvements specifically for audio in terms of functionality it offers over snow leopard. The speed difference is marginal between them, maybe a 5% difference in comparative tasks.
I don't need new things just because they're new.
Oh, and don't get all pumped up about bugs on a new OS release. We all go through the same whenever any new OS is released, regardless of mac or PC (unless you include ME or vista which was a whole world of endless until thankfully discontinued). |

I just bought a new MacBook Pro a month ago. I had the same problem, and couldn't decide whether to buy a new W7 laptop or an MBP. Overall, I think buying an MBP, even with Lion installed on it, was the best electronics purchase I have ever made.
With that said, I have never used OSX 10.6 and couldn't tell you which is better. People have told me Lion sucks catastrophic ass, but have also heard people say it's absolutely orgasmic. In my case, Lion has been smooth and overall, beautiful. The choice is yours to make; I can't help you on this one. |
