I think there should be a sub-forum for the production studio specifically focused on how to make certain sounds. It's a very appropriate topic to discuss around here but it gets annoying when there's 10 of them on the first page, especially when 1) they're usually pretty easy to make, and 2) multiple threads are made asking how to make the same sound
Putting it in its own subforum would mean we could sticky the thread when someone answers it well, for future reference.. it could be used as an all-purpose reference for how to make pretty much whatever sound you want, and it would at the very least give all of the new producers that come here a definitive starting point of information that's directly useful to anyone new to producing.
Just my two cents though. I don't really know why it hasn't been done yet. A subforum for theory would be nice, too, but then again this section seems to be a bit segregated from the rest of TA so I could understand if production isn't important enough around here to warrant three subforums for it. |

Learning how to get certain sounds, whether easy or difficult to reproduce, is a great way to sharpen up sound design skills. Yes, there are quite a number of those threads popping up here and there, but I would fully support a sub-forum or sticky thread that went over how to recreate different sounds. Browsing such threads on this forum alone has been invaluable to my development as a producer. There used to be so much mystery surrounding some simple sounds producers use in their tracks, and once I started learning how to make them myself, more and more of the sounds used in EDM became more obvious.
My one suggestion is that the poster must upload or point to a sample of the desired sound. I didn't do this when I started posting on here, but found I got much more (and better) responses when I did. It would also be cool if a responder uploaded a sample of how close they got to the original..But maybe that's too ambitious :D |
