for example, those trance tracks made in 1999. Ishkur has tremendous knowledge but he calls those epic trance or dutch trance. what's the verdict on the official adjective to describe those uplifting hands- in-the-air trance joints?

To me, these are the official subgenres in the trance domain:

  • Classic/Acid
  • Psychedelic/Goa
  • Progressive
  • Psy-Progressive
  • Deep Progressive
  • Classic Uplifting
  • Modern Uplifting
  • Tech/Japanese
  • Hard/German
  • Hard-Tech
  • Prog-Tech

I guess so. I just hope members here use those adjectives more often.

wait a second, is there an official "Trance Parliament" ?
I'm not familiar with the trance laws and whats so called 'official sub-genres', I prefer listening to quality music instead, no matter of its (sub)genre.

Tech-Trance is a legit genre

Trance-twats love nothing more than to endlessly sub-divide the genre to try and make their insular tastes seem more expansive. So just about every genre tag mentioned in this thread is probably religion to someone, and just look at the madness of the psy-trance sub-genre fest:

Prog-psy
Dark-psy
Morning psy
Twilight psy
Forest psy
Full on psy
Psy-tekk
Psy-core
Psy-dub
Psy-chill
Psy-breaks
Psy-step

A five way division of classic / acid, prog, psy, hard trance, and epic / "uplifting" does just fine. Maybe add tech trance and split psy into prog and full on, if you want to be a bit more precise.

Anything more than that is silly. No, you do not need a split between "modern uplifting" and "classic uplifting," or regular "progressive" and "deep progressive." Good lord...

Don't see the need to put progressive into 3 different substyles. Deep progressive is a nonsense term imo.

Out of curiousity, which psy-genre is the following track from?
