I'm specifically curious about the sound leakage as they're semi open.
I was going to get some K271mk2's for a bit of mix referencing duty, but then I noticed that the 240s might work better as they're semi open. Thing is i'll probably use them for vocal tracking as well and I don't want teh spillage if I can help it.
Mmm'k ta. |

im a 271mk2 user.
cons - made in china now.
- the 100-200hz is a bit hard to judge.
pros - reveals an amazing amount of detail, artifacts and separation.
- nice soundstage, feels like there is room above the sound which gives it a decent pallete.
these make a lot of sounds sound very nice, which is a good and bad thing, low bitrate and lofi sound really bad on these. |

Love them, had them for years. Sound leakage could be a bit of a factor though as you can tend to hear them if standing close by. If it's specifically for vocals, I think you might want to go with some closed backs. |

Cheers guys
@MSZ, it's funny. You're the third person I know that uses those cans who's mixes I perceive as being as pro as they get from somebody that a lot of people still haven't heard of....yet :p |

Anyone know what the major difference is between the originals and MKII? I wonder if it's worth upgrading since I use them so much.
I've got the originals, and they're my favorite headphones. Assuming the new ones are an improvement, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I personally like them for the detail they provide, but more than that, how long you can use them without experiencing fatigue. Some days I find them easier on the ears than my reference monitors. |

From the research I did, the only difference that was noted was an automatic cutoff switch on the headphones so they go silent when you take them off, although I'm sure there must be other technical differences :conf:
Anyhoo, i've just found a pair of K271 mk2's on t'bay for £67 so they've been bought! |

<3 AKG K240 <3. have had mine since last december and i do more than 98% of my work in them now and what i put into them tranlates at least 90% correctly to monitors and other systems usually needing small tweaks to the highs and lows when youre first getting used to them, very accurate headphones they are. i hear the K271 is the closed back equivilent, im curious to hear them.
purely done in AKG K240: [[ LINK REMOVED ]]

Same drivers with an added safety feature that tehlord mentioned, and a curly instead of straight cord. |

Well the 271's arrived the other day and they are detailed little ******s.
I'm undermixing bass like crazy on them though. Just shows how different they are to my HS80s (shocker right?)
They're probably more accurate everywhere else though, and I suspect they are down the bottom end too, i'm just not used to them yet. |

lol bass is a bitch on them, because they make it all sound good. i tend to overmix mine(pretty sure they have a dip there frequency wise), in the end, I NEED SPEAKERS. but dont get me wrong, i need these headphones too, ive listened to my masters on my ipod and was very impressed. |
