I still respect the man to the highest degree but its become apparent, at least to me that Border Community has been finished for a couple of years now. I dont think he's really interested any longer from the sounds of this material.

I say just shut down the label and let it go down in history as one of the greatest experimental dance music projects ever. |

I've lost interest in him the moment his music focussed more on the off-timing of his kicks and hi-hats and what not, this so called 'humanizing' of his tracks. By doing so he completely ignored the melodic part of his music. Take his Caribou - Bowls remix for example. Yes it might be experimental and weird sounding, but it's dull and bores the hell out of me. I miss his I Have Put Out The Light days..
Every once and a while his label still puts out something a bit more to my liking, cf. Fairmont - Vanguard is doable. :p |

this track is flippin' fantastic, although not as dance music for the regular club scene. if Holden ever played out with some Finnish guys dropping some Suomi the result would be nothing short of epic.
but I haven't liked Border Community since Ricardo Tobar released his LP. really lost that melodic edge.
edit: the A side of the Kate Wax edits sound really nice, too. |

Sacrificing proven musical concepts for the sake of experimentation. I guess he pulled it off as well as anyone could but if you get too far away from the core concept (which is that people want to dance to it), the music usually suffers. |

i hope he keeps going. if he sets up a festival with his kinda sound then a whole new genre will be born. it's on the cusp of becoming that anyway, dumping the label now would be crazy.
what do you mean "sacrificing proven musical concepts"? -- creeping into sounding like an old fart, man. |

| I liked his stuff best in the "Come To Me" days. Good mix of melodicism and sonic chaos. |

Seems like he experimented himself to death. |

| Hasn't he said a whole bunch of times that he hates "computer music"? |
