song tempo

hey guys,

Ive been working on 5 or 6 songs over the last 6 months and have just realised today that all of them sit around the 133-136 bpm mark.

I usualy determine the tempo of my songs by playing the main riff (which is usualy where the idea starts) at a few different tempos and pick the one that feels best when playing. At this stage I realise that its within my musical nature to come up with riffs that sit around this tempo range.

My question is, should I stick to the tempo that "feels" right when I play it, or, compare it to a song of similar nature and use that as a guide?

Is there a common tempo (or tempo range) that trance songs usualy slot into (especialy for the song to work in a live setting)? Is there a threshold that you really shouldnt go below?

cheers,

You can do what you feel like of course. You're already in the common range for most trance these days. What feels right is of course the most important part so don't worry too much and go with it :)
