also, solid state in an imac is a waste of money since you can only have one hard drive. if you were on a macpro and could afford a SS to have your system installed on then a couple sata drives for data, and storage, then ya.

thanks for updating my intel, sir

thanks man, did you change it yourself? the step by step guide looks simple enough, but it still looks a bit scarier than cracking open a PC? does the eye unplug easily fir instance?

This morning I had a dream that I was hanging out with Jay, and he made these really faggy pink lemonade margarita looking slushed alcohol drinks. Despite the gayness they actually looked refreshing, and I wanted one, but Jay wouldn't let me - so when he wasn't looking I drank the one intended for my boss. Just then, the other guy we were with started babbling insanely and Jay started to laugh hysterically and he said "Here it comes!" Then the guy started wobbling and he passed out. That's when I could f eel my head getting fuzzyfuzzy and my legs get heavy. I looked at Jay and said "Wtf did you do??!!!!" And he laughed and said "I told you you wouldn't like it..." So I told myself to "WAKE UP! STOP IT!" And I was fine. And then Jay made another drink so we could poison my boss. Lol.

it was very simple, it was just a little tedious (putting it back together was worse than opening it up). basically just take your time. taking out the old hard drive was annoying, you need to be somewhat forceful about it as 2 of the screws cannot be taken out with a common torx (won't stop you, you'll need to slowly nudge the bay out)

the eye won't be a problem as you simply disconnect i believe 2 connectors and it will give you enough room to flip the LCD over and get to work. you also don't need special suction cups for the screen, those cheap window/wall cups will work just well. just position them at the top two corners and pull to remove the glass. oh ya and remember to remove the ram screws at the bottom afterwards. i completely forgot about it and was flipping my over why i couldn't open the system up :P

Sorry but have to totally disagree - an imac ssd is by far the best value vs performance ratio of any apple product.

Firstly, you don't need a massive drive for your system and applications - 250gb is more than enough and the top SSD's (ontel 320 or 510) have come down in price now so that you can get blistering performance for not a lot of money.

You can also replace the optical drive and put in another large HDD in really easily so that means one super fast system drive and a huge internal storage drive.

Bear in mind that Apple is probably going to discontinue internal DVD/CD drives on future models and make you buy the Ait extrnal optical drive.

Even if you want to keep your internal optical, you can fw800 drives like lacie or G-raid which offer the same performance as internal drives.

See this thread I made here:

Explains how to do the swap out and with all the benefits - countless people have done it on the forum since I posted this and they've all had great results.

Thanks man, I'll give that a read. I'm essentially looking for the best performance vs value. The easiest install possible as well, I'm good at taking things apart and putting them back together, but those were toasters on meth. This is the secondary computer that we share mostly for multimedia applications. What would you suggest to get the most bang for your buck?

Ha ha Jay is a hipster! Better rename the title of this topic to "scarf recommendation thread".

I have a pabst logo shaved into my pubes. what can I say, for multimedia they just work better.
