| probably the best remixer is CJ Stone for his ability to shape tunes the way he wants them. NONE of his remixes sound like the originals, but maintain the similarities and crucial elements, take a listen, the guy is a remix genius, albeit a tad cheesy at times. |

If you'd asked me a couple years ago I'd have said Armin. He was the absolute king of remixes back in the day. He had that ability to take a great song and, somehow, make it better. Listen to tracks like L'Esperanza and Viola -- both massive trancers that he managed to take to the next level. Equally impressive was his ability to take mediocre or non-trance tunes (ie; Dido, Force Of Habit, Holding On, Novaskotia, Devotion, etc.) and transform them into huge floorfillers. Respect.
Nowadays though, it seems he's lost his touch, or maybe just the rest of the scene has caught up with him. I still like his remixes but they're not so far ahead of what everyone else is doing anymore. So at present I'd say my favourite remixers are the usual suspects, the Bonzai buddies M.I.K.E. and L-Vee, as well as people like the abovementioned AvB + Riva and Ferry Corsten. |
