How do you actually acheive those, low, familiar basslines-- like those of Ferry? I was thinking tweaking some of the options on Malstorm, but that doesn't help- doesn't sound very trancey like. If someone can point in the right direction, I would appreciate it. BTW, in Reason.

it depends on what kind of bassline you want..

if ya want a harder bassline like a 303 or something like that i sugest you tweak the sub....that one always work fine with those acid sounds :)

if ya want more of a phat bassline i sugest you get some good samples of an analogue synth like acces virus or nordlead or similar and run it through one of the samplers (either NN-19 or NN-XT)

then just tweak the knobs until you find the sound your'e after..

one suggestion is to read the reason manual about the subtractor and NN-19/xt and read up on how to use all those scary knobs ;)

[edit] ohh forgot one thing.... Analogue samples has the absolute BEST samples of those analogue and VA synths you should look for :D

you might want to try Rebirth to Reason via Rewire, which will bring you the best 303 basslines ( -> Ferry Corsten ) ...

dont forget to compress the living out of your bass, and crank up the gain to make up for for the loudness drop.

you can get away with minimal FX on it, a TINY bit of reverb(low frequency only, and only 0.x second decay, and some EQing. thats about it

I usually forget to compress, and my basses turn out like ass

PS: system F - solstice 4->

I noticed I get it ferry style b-lines a lot by using the 404 in fruity or a pro 52...Eq so that it sounds deep around 60-90hz and throw some reeverb if need(just a lil)....Make sure when you eq it, you can still hear the bass drum...
