Most of the trance I listen to is post '95. The real early stuff was a little more experimental, though I still appreciate quite a good bit of it. :)

No worries mate, I'm 19 too, and only got into trance about 6 years ago. I liked some trance when I was a kid too, but wasn't much of a music aficionado then, so I didn't really care to follow artists.:rolleyes:
I'd say if you're new to the scene, listen to a few mix albums, find some songs on there you like and expand your horizons from there. :)

haha I don't really consider it to be cheese. A lot of people classify songs that were commercially successful to be cheese.
I consider crap like Basshunter, David Guetta & all that garbage to be cheese. It's dull pop music made simply to make money. Also stuff that you normally see just labeled as "trance" on youtube with a picture of a bikini clad anime girl is usually cheese...:p

Why I said 1995 is because that's when it really got a hold of that sound we classify as trance nowdays. A lot of the pre-95 stuff still had some very strong tech-house & new wave elements in them.

I won't say classic trance doesn't exist, but there is a very definitive sound that many think of when they think of the trance genre.

I think I have a pretty awesome list. Most of my faves are early 2000's. I'm 19 as well if anyone cares, but I got into trance at around 8 years old.
No particular order. Did some grouping. I definitely missed a lot so I'll be editing this. Edit: After reading my list, I can say that holy there's a lot of variety in trance music!
