blofeld allows for boolean operations which can be extremely powerful. Wavetable synthesis as well and you can load your own samples. Cheap too.

What Exactly are you looking to achieve?

If it's loads of sound design options (& even more $) definitely look at a modular system like a Buchla - also worth mentioning software options like Reaktor/Max/Tassman etc or hybrids like Clavia Modular G2 too:)

I just want a synth that can make any sound
aquila
See if you can find a synth that sounds like a duck farting underwater through a tin whistle.

How about something off the beaten path:

Yamaha FS1R
Kawai K5000s

This should keep you busy for a while and Kawai has the best keybed I ever touched.

I cannot believe I sold these fukers so cheap, seeing what they go for these days. FS1R - $800??? I sold mine for $350, having bought it for $200. Kawai? Ditto - paid $300, sold for $600, now trades at $800.

Better hang on to this than my BlackBerry stock...
