Don't explain and apologize, Nick. While this habit of self-conscious superficial criticism among you and some of the other younger fellows (I'm looking at you, Austin) just getting into things is understandable (believe me, I relate), I hope you're not hearing things like this and thinking it "ruined" anything for anyone.

You are allowed to be a perfectionist (I am), but when you aren't perfect, take it in stride, and know it'll be better next time. And then again. Desire to work - to do it again - should be the response, because man, you've got nothing to apologize for.

I didn't really even go into this necessarily wanting to like it, yet I knew during the first track I would, and I damn well did. If our roles were reversed, I'd be pretty proud of that.

Well put. Every time I post a mix here, I hope there are no issues with the mixing, since Teezdalien once told me that one simple trainwreck ruins sets, and in seeing Dave King's review for Jack's Return to Eden mix I noticed that he didn't enjoy the mix because of a few bad transitions, so if I up I try to apologize for the inconvenience. Just trying to be humble, since there are some seriously awesome DJ's in this forum and I don't want to downplay any mistakes. But I see your point.

Hey, Matt, I knew you would like those numbers, you should really check out the album Sirius Sounds from them, I think you'd like it.

To be fair I'm generally quite tolerant of imperfections, god knows a fair few of my mixes a far from perfect! Mixes that have a few errors in the but were recorded maybe on the fly or on the first take very often sound much better than a re-recording that is performed perfectly. I think for the most part the majority of people on here know when the mistakes are likely to be too much and will detract from the listening experience although the thresholds are perhaps different for different styles of music. A techno set with lots of chopping and changing and quick cuts is more likely to sound ok than a prog set of long blends with the same amount of errors. So like I said, I think most of us here know when spomethings good enough to share and when it needs some tweaking, perfect or not. To be honest, the problem I had with Jacks mix was that more that I felt the incoming track didnt fit with all of the preceding tracks rather than the mix itself was a little ropey (if that makes any sense)

Anyway, to your mix, top stuff. The tracks flowed into each other really nicely, I loved the variation. I really liked the fact that you didnt put things into sections, so there wasnt a distinct group of more ambient tracks then the more dubby ones, then the breaksy ones but intertwined the three styles back and forth without losing coherance. That Protoculture track is wicked, I went and found the album its from on spotify straight after finishing your mix, what the happened to him man :nervous: :whip:

So yeah, definately one that will be getting repeat listens from me :)

I always find yours and Jack's mixing to be pretty great, but nobody is really perfect. Everybody should strive for better, but we are still human after all.

Thanks, Dave. I'm pleased with how this one turned out for the most part. Sometimes you don't know just how well a set will fit together as a whole until you play it, and I think this one managed to fall together properly. Protoculture has indeed fallen off quite a bit. I think once Armin started playing him, he saw lots of dollar signs and wandered in that direction.

I actually got a good amount of progress done on a set I've been working over this weekend, but now that this new puppy has arrived I'm a little short on time to do anything other than stop her from chewing up everything.

I completely missed this I think? I will check it out. :D

I still stand by that statement. This day and age there's no excuse for a trainwrecked mix, that said I wouldn't call the transition RJT refered to as a trainwreck either, this was excellent for the most part and that transition kind of reminded me of the botched mix I did with my psy attempt in the genre challenge.
I'm talking fully fledged galloping with the beat matching, slight imperfections like minor slips and drifts are certainly bearable and somehow show there's someone manually mixing the music. But I suck so take whatever I say with a grain of salt. I did enjoy this my friend. ;)

listened to this today, this set is ing dollar.

there are the psy elements in there which were not so much to my liking though it put me in a tranze state. feels good man.

mixing is good throughout, i wanted some more maverick transitions but you kept it real, like a dj should.

overall great mix nicko, i want a full fledged ambient mix next time, throw in some really moody trax son.

ggnires.

Thanks for the comments, and yeah, I agree that trainwrecks are terrible and do indeed ruin sets, so when Rob called that a trainwreck I was kinda like  :(

Yeah, I think I probably should have kept the volume down on the incoming track until right before the outgoing one ended. Ah well. No big deal I suppose. Thanks for listening!

Thank you, Anthony. I'd like to do an ambient mix, but I'm afraid I haven't heard anything that has struck me just yet. Actually, I take that back, I haven't heard any ambient at all. So you'd do well to just wait. Should be some more srsbdns mixes coming in the next two months. ;)

So I finally gave this a listen. What a nice change from all the other stuff out there, that's why I like your stuff zip. I found the transitions more than fine, definitely didn't detract from the feel of the mix. Obviously there was that one everyone's been talking about but it didn't matter to me, especially because this type of mix is a pain in the ass sometimes to properly transition. This is what I've found anyways when mixing atmospheric ambient/dnb/dub/breaks tracks.

Especially love the birds at 39:00. Ace track.

Overall: brilliant listening experience, always going to make the morning commutes more interesting to say the least. Staying on my ipod for a while ;)

I'll have to check this out. I currently love this genre a lot.

It may take me a while though.
