[Tech House] Rodri Santos - Amnesia (Original Mix) [Feedback Needed]
View this Thread in Original format
Rodri Santos
Hello this is my almost finished track, what do you think of it? I'd need some objective feedback about the mix specially because i mixed it on the laptop and couldn't listen to it on a good pair of monitors because i am on trip right now and won't be at home till december.

Thank you in advance, any constructive criticism is welcome

I really didn't like it, not my thing at all. But produced very well.

I think the reason I didn't like it, is because it reminded me of blue monday.

Still congrats on the production values.

the percussion at the beginning overpower the mix and have this weird sounding reverb and over arching EQ energy that is just taking up too much space. The beginning section sounds like it is from another track. In fact all your sub sections lack a sense of continuity. You just randomly add things. Bassline is a little too prog house generic italian disco. The random samples you throw in like the electricity, vocal guy breathing are painful. That part with the kick on the off beat sounds like you are a dj mixing 2 tracks and do not understand the concept of phrasing. That actual build of random samples I mentioned earlier also leads to nothing. What is the point. 4 : 30 minutes in, had to turn it off.

sorry dude.

awful sound palette
form is non existent
Overall track can be summed up in 1 measure. Extremely boring and lacking anything what so ever to warrant any sort of listening. Not being a dick. It really is that generic.
mix is muddy and just hard to take or listen to.

The only positive thing I can honestly say is the track title and that is only because the track is that forgettable.

I would just move on. This track does not warrant a second listen nor a second attempt at mixing. There are no redeeming qualities to it. So ya, forget about this one and move on.

The hihat doesn't fit the track at all.

The bass needs a lot of mastering to get it 'suit' all the other layers of that track.

Tech house isn't my thing either but I think you should try a different way to build the track up. Something more unique.

The guy who has a thing for handsome hollywood movies stars is right, there's no structure in the track. It sounded like a DJ was mixing in a new track in some parts of the song.

well all of the things you say are more or less expected, the intro is like a beta version of what it should be i made it quickly on the morning.

I can understand you think the structure is non existant, if you go to the beatport's top 100 tech house you'll see most tracks sound similar to this one , but making another one exactly like this would make the track really really generic thats why i tried to add more flavour with some unexpected changes like the offbeat kick or the section that starts at 4:15.

What i see is that i have to work harder in order to make all the sections flow like one. I'd have preferred that people who are more into tech house reviewed this track but this general point of view may be better.

I am going to re arrange the track and i'll fine tune some sounds, and less random vocal samples.

Thanks for this harsh yet effective feedback.

Why does this sentence sound odd to me? ;)

You got this one right.
Rodri Santos
no offence but since i am on a leisure trip i am half of the time high if not more it's standard i guess that most of the things i write sound odd :P

it does have that quality that a lot of top beatport tracks have - your'e in the right direction, but for me all you need is more finese and to make each sound something your own and special.

Also use a sound or 2 that constantly evolve thru the track - the reason I keep saying this is that otherwise you can be indanger of banging out a loopy 'made in Albeton' type affair - nothing wrong with Albeton of course, but I think you get what I mean - a lot of folk stumble into this loopy way of working that can output a generic unloved feel.

I actualy like the bass - I'm a bit leather n gay in my tsatses, so that probably explains things.:whip:

Kick is too distorted in parts. Big muddy on the low on. Should be pretty obvious. Some cool ideas though. I like the bassline. The kick is just too overpowering though. I bet if you cleaned it up a little and did the mix down over you could have a pretty grooving track. I like basslines like that.
