Skip to 2:48 for his explanation, but the whole video is VERY good!!

Yeah, pretty much. People are willing to pay big money for a name recognition, and not much for the DJing skills and the ability to entertain the crowd.

the way to make the list is to produce tracks....
but what he meant to say, in guetta's case, would be to make tracks with pop stars...lol
i do remember like 6 years ago, when david guetta first played in toronto. all the TA undergorund heads were totally into him... he drew big crowds in the underground scene before he blew up. he is pretty legit... and 25 million fans on facebook.... wtf!

I don't remember anyone liking guetta. All I remember is TA's making fun of him for playing to an empty FYE at WMC 2007 because he just ing sucks that bad as a DJ. I could name 3 DJ's from SF alone who are better than Guetta in every way.

that's definitely a great video for all DJs to watch and learn from.

I liked Guetta back when i first heard him around 04-05.... he was an average house dj... good but not great.... started going to his FMIF parties around 06-07... nowadays i most likely would't go as its just too commercial for me... but he can bring it when he wants to. A few years ago he played 8 hours on the Space Miami terrace... i remember last year he played a private party here in Hollywood with the BEPs... first hour was more cheesy but the 2nd hour he played a lot deeper and harder. He's developed a style that appeals more to the casual clubber... no reason to hate on the guy IMO...

This entire video is great - but it's sad that most club owners truly don't care about the quality. I don't entirely blame owners: a big name DJ will sell tickets, which leads to bar sales, which leads to a good time, which leads people to spread the word about the venue (and DJ). I just get really annoyed when I go places around here that have poorly put together sound systems and bad DJ's that have no musical backbone. I've DJ'd for over ten years and play a five hour set every Friday night. Sometimes many people at the venue don't like what I play, but those who come for dance music love it and I stay true to that.
Really a good video to inspire you to just do what you love to do as a DJ! And do it because you really, truly, are obsessed with the next big remix, or finding a whitelabel you don't think anyone else has. Everyone you meet seems to be a DJ, but I just don't think about that. Even in such a crowded spectrum, you can still be an individual with a lot of history behind your musical taste.
