| okay boys and girls, I really have been out of the loop lately with what's happening in Montreal, what is this story about Parking moving to a new location? |

| Sources say its moving to Usine C and will be more cabaret than nightclub |

| I heard something similar... that it's moving to the old "Station C" where KOX used to be, above Katacombes. Didn't hear anything about the cabaret format. |

yes it's gonna be at Station C but only the front part … not the big ass room where we used to do parties (KLOC)… (was told it's gonna be turned into condos).
P.S. for Brian: Katacombes is reopening too. :p |

humm, I guess I will have to wait to see what they are going to do to this new place. anybody knows when this is happening? Their website is only showing parties until to October 29, no schedule for November yet
edit: just saw some of their schedules for Nov on Facebook |

Parking is now officially close since last Thusday...
Yesterday they emptied the club.
They are not moving. They are opening a new club in the same building as KOX use to be which is in the Station C building. The new club will be called Appolon and it is in a much smaller space then Parking.
Same not so loved administrations, same bad sound system and same bad lighting system...
The space that Parking use to occupy will be replace by a bath-house that is a success everywhere else they are in the world... STEAMWORK |

| What sucks is that they closed Parking without warning anyone through Facebook. The DJ that was to play there on saturday night (Etienne Ozborne) was still announcing it on saturday morning. |

Heartbreaking.
I came out in and around Parking. Had my first dance 5 years ago with my current girlfriend in the sweaty hip hop room downstairs. Have cherished memories of dancing moments and inspiring moments with my then girlfriend Jackie Spade when she was learning to spin and I was transferring from commercial through prog to tech house and minimal. We joked about saving money by getting the overdose stamp tattooed on our wrists.
Once we walked in as usual and it was more expensive. We asked why and the coat check guy pointed to a white paper printed with black Ariel bold : $12 Richie Hawtin. We shrugged and went in only to experience one of the best and most inspiring club nights of my life (even though I'm not so into him now). This was the last club night that I went to regularly based on the venue and day, before it became all about following DJs around the city.
A lot of that died with the old Parking but at least it still existed (even though the sound was horrible at times and the room vibe was colder). Still got to go to the occasional Refresh, still would put Parking among the top 3 clubs in Montreal, in that familiar spot in the heart of the village.
While many of my baby DJ dreams have been coming true, alas Parking, which might have been the most personally sentimental, was not to be.
I'm not so crushed practically speaking, though. I don't know about all the nights but the club felt too big and cold and dry for its boots on Thursdays. The space would have been good for higher capacity international bookings but then the sound wouldn't have done it justice. The booth is high in the sky and impersonal... I'm keeping an optimistic open mind about the smaller more intimate spot it's "moving" to.
Unfortunately this leaves a hole in the village scene, but I hope this opens room for other businesses to step in. I wonder if the crowd will move with the club. Gotta love their energy :)
I wonder why they closed down so abruptly.
Anyway, farewell le Parking. Thanks for a lot of things :) |

| November would have been there anniversary month too I think ... This is sad ... Unity doesn't bring good dj's anymore really, and skye is often dead on Saturday nights on the 3rd floor ... but if the smaller space makes for a more intimate vibe, then maybe this is a good move ... personally, i think they should have kept the name Parking, since that brand has been around for so long ... time will tell i suppose |
