Don't do this. You will only get some cheesy 5 million times played supersaw "classics" by entering 'trance classic' to youtube.

Of the current day, try the A State of Trance and Above and Beyond radio shows as a starting point and take it from there.

There's 2 paths to follow nowadays:

The first one is the quoted above, where everything is happy, arms up in the air, dance and pop vocals all the way. You and all the 16 - 17 years old kids will be together with the #trancefamily.

The second one is dark, hypnotic and you can barely control yourself cause your mind will be taken by the music. Here the truly Trance sounds will make you forget about your own existence. Try John '00' Fleming's radioshow on DI.FM and keep your eyes on Mistique Music, Deep Sessions Recordings, Hyline Music and Underground City.

You will see a lot of tunes labeled as Prog House but trust me, too many sounds like Trance.

Now, choose your path and good luck! :happy2:

Well so basically you recommend him to listen to psy-trance which isn't trance. I hope fleming doesn't play that psycrap anymore which he did the last time i listened to any mix he made.
Gangsta-Nun
5 Compilation CD's I recommend for Classics:

Trance Nation - The Collection
Armada Presents 60 Best Trance Hits Ever
Classic Euphoria
Dave Pearce Trance Anthems 2008 & 09 & 10
Gatecrashers Wet + Red

These will do for the classics.

From this you will have a general idea of what you like and what you don't like. Find similar artist, find out what genres you like.

You can either do what i did and go forwards and listen to current radioshows (e.g A State of Trance with AVB or Trance Around The World with A&B) and the newer trance sound or you can be old school and head back further and further into Trance's roots. You may need some guidance with this as i don't know that area that well)

Once you've done that you'll be free to experiment. Trance is such a wide open genre which may entice you into other EDM genres.

Also buy some LSD and go crazy.

Psy trance is not trance? Are you out of your mind? Why is it called psy TRANCE then you ignorant zealot?
If psy trance isn't trance then what is trance? Examples?

Just ignore him. He thinks it's cool to bash on psy-trance so he does so in every thread he can post it in, relentlessly.

Arcabascio's Erotik Mix would be a good start.

TranceElevator: Who is that Sebas guy? He have just taken Armins Boundaries of Imagination mix and put his own name on it. What an ugly bastard.

Or you can just pick latest Coldplay or Joe Satriani record, because it seems like plenty of trance music is heading there. That and all the electro house music of course.

Erm, irony aside, I made a little youtube video on evolution of trance music some time ago. Unfortunately, it's blocked in some countries thanks to Black Hole Recordings. Now that I think of it I should never thought of including Tiesto tracks in the first place.

Anyways, if you're lucky, you can watch video here:

Quite a few errors in that video. Children and Mahadeva were both released in 1995. And the track is called William Orbit - Barbers Adagio For Strings (Ferry Corsten remix)
