Question regarding synth stabs

Hey all,
My question concerns the process undertaken when artists such as John Askew, Si Patterson, Greg Downey, Rob Stevenson etc, incorporate their synth stabs into productions. A good case in point here is the synth stabs that feature throughout Simon Patterson's remix of John Askew's Blackout. Are these created from original synth, arranging a chord or sequence, layering etc and then FX applied to taste or are many artists simply dropping in a synth stab from a sample pack and applying their FX etc from this point? Are these stabs for the most part created by the artists or in the case of most are they simply dropping in samples and FX? |

Synth stabs are pretty simple to make, I'd imagine most of the producers you named there are capable of making their own. |

it's a 1 shot sample, probably from vengeance, you can hear when the pitch rises on it, it's not the way a chord would sound naturally played. |

They are used much like vocal samples, to give a rhytmic stacato effect. It's easier to do it with a sample as layers of synths generally don't have a fast enough attack & release. |
