Case in point...the new 2011 prequel of Carpenters The Thing called...well what do you know, its ing called The Thing :whip: I
I found its better if i just assume that anything new out hollywood is pure and be plesantly surprised if i by chance i find something that isnt. |

The Thing is among my favourite films and I was initially excited to see the prequel, although I don't expect much from a relatively inexperienced director....
I've heard from many people who've seen it, that's he's totally desecrated it (it's not launching in the UK till December).

This. I love the original (the Final Cut, not the theatrical release), but I have very low expectations about this and am apprehensive about the whole idea.
Also, Ridley has made his share of terrible movies as well. He's not god. |

a sequel by Scott himself is out of question going to be good
if it was somebody else directing (maybe, except of Chris Nolan) then it would suck |

Agreed.
Also, a large part of what makes the original Blade Runner are the themes it addressed + it's raw 'neo-noir' feel - I'm not quite sure a sequel will maintain that authenticity ...but I hope to be proven wrong. |

| you all make it sound as if blade runner was an instant hit when it was out... quite to the contrary. It was largely ignored and misunderstood... so reading some reactions here about this prequel is quite funny. |

| Yeah, I think for a movie to reach cult status it has to have made less than 50 mill box office and more than 123 in dvd/video sale. Numbers might be a little off, there's an equation you can use. |
